♥ the ranting thread. (V2) ♥

Are you referring to her new story that she just released? I haven’t read it because it’s not necessarily something I would read as well.

I have something to say that may seem rude, but I’m just voicing my feelings. We’re all aware Episode needs to improve, and they have been improving. But, let’s be real here; they have a long way to go starting with recognizing less known authors instead of only popular authors. I’m not saying that popular authors are bad people, I just feel like it should be an even share. Just saying…

I totally agree with you. I’ve been trying to prove that point for the longest. Some people within the episode community (like myself) get tired of seeing cliche stories all over the app. You don’t see any stories by less known authors because stories by popular authors are flooding each genre shelf making it hard to find ANY stories by smaller authors.

Honestly at first I wasn’t, but when she replied, I told my opinion 🤷🏼😊 and you are right about recognizing the smaller authors

i think channeling negativity into one small place such as my thread is better than having it spread and infect multiple other threads and categories.
having negative feelings such as sadness or anger shouldnt be seen as shameful as long as you dont act out on them without thinking things through. that is exactly why i made this thread; this was meant to be a judgement-free zone where you can let go of your negative feelings, take some time to relax and collect your thoughts, then go on with your day. it is also a lil support group if you are looking for a bit of encouragement or someone to talk to.

you are misunderstanding that this is a venting thread, not a place to insult other people. i have rules in the op that discourage those things. people will have conflicting opinions about topics, but two people disagreeing doesnt necessarily mean that either side is shameful so as long as they’re both respectful and civil. with negativity all around sometimes, of course disagreements are inevitable, but they are always controlled before anything gets out of hand. i would rather an argument happen in a thread where disagreement are expected, instead of any other threads that are supposed to have positive vibes.

its okay that you disagree with the idea of my thread, you do not have to participate. i dont like unnecessary drama either, but i feel its good if people have a designated place to rant, talk about their day, get a bit support from friends, mention ways they think that the episode app can be improved… sure there may be an occasional disagreement going on, but its better than having these negative feelings go unfacilitated and explode in ten other threads

Huh, that’s an interesting point of view. I wouldn’t have used the word “shameful” to describe these stories. I actually, depending on your own point of view go a step further and think that a lot of stories (not only on Episode), just media in general is really gross, sinful, gratuitous. There are some things I like that are “gratuitous”, like horrifying deaths and terrible war.

Anything to do with like sex, though, I can be physically uncomfortable personally. That has mostly to do with the fact that I’m ace, so >.> That’s weird XDXD

I miss stories that are tamer in general, stories like Narnia, where the romantic nonsense is kept to a fantastic minimum. Now, the steamy nonsense is everywhere you look in stories.

I think I really would have liked that movie “Passengers” without the romantic angle. (Just a terrible movie, really)

But I appreciate this point of view! And thank you for sharing, really! <3 <3

Honestly, it’s hard for it to not turn into some kind of drama outside of the trend. If people start targeting stories it can get back to the author. Like what happened with me. What’s the difference btw name dropping and story dropping? If you talk about the story you might as well be talking about the author who wrote it…

I understand the intent was meant to not have the ranting “spread” but someone literally messaged me to tell me “people are judging your story and calling it shameful on the forums”. :woman_shrugging:t5:. It was that easy. And i was just minding my business yet the negativity from this thread “found me” some how. Sounds like drama to me. :woman_shrugging:t5:

What if people weren’t necessarily talking about your story? Yes, they mentioned your story because you are a popular author, and they see that you literally put out a story and in one day your story gained over 3k reads. That can be discouraging to less known authors like them and myself. Honestly, I don’t know how you gain so many reads in just 24 hours. You’re are very lucky, but it’s the fact that you are a popular author. So, it’s easier for you to put out a story and get TONS of reads in a day. I don’t think anybody was saying anything bad about your story though. Yeah, they may have called it cliche in a sense, but I think that’s all they meant to say. But, I can see why you’re kind of upset about it because if someone was calling my story shameful, I would be kind of mad too.

i did not see the message where your story was explicitly mentioned, unless you’re the author of “my best friend’s father”
of course announcing specific names of stories or authors is not okay and i will update the original post

i am sorry that you were affected negatively by this thread. the intent of this thread is not to harm other people. you have the freedom to create episode stories of your wishes (as long as they stay within the app guidelines)
i admire your insight on popular stories and the ranting thread itself. your opinions are valid, but so are those of other forummers, including opinions you might disagree with. everyone can express viewpoint here if they are respectful about it.
deliberately insulting, starting fights on purpose, or explicitly posting names of others is against everything this thread is supposed to stand for.
negativity unfortunately is starting to become more inevitable with the rise of petty drama on forums… it seems like its coming from anywhere these days. i know i cant stop bad messages from spreading with one single thread, but a girl can try

you are allowed to feel however you want about this thread. i wont try to change your mind if you disagree with how i envision this thread to be :sunny:

why would it be discouraging for authors with followers to get reads? It is expected because its easier to advertise the story. That’s like me feeling discouraged because J, K. Rowling’s new book has more readers than mine, I mean it just makes sense for her to, so why should I feel a way? You don’t need a lot of reads to win contests, that’s been proven time and time again.

That @loveyourself person basically said that people who hate cliche stories like “My Best Friend’s Father” will read small authors original stories… even tho they have no idea what my story is about. I was not upset, I was simply saying its all love, no need to rip a story you haven’t read.

I could actually have a lot of reads because i worked hard and its actually a good story, not just because it’s “cliche” or that I’m “popular”. For my first contest entry, I barely had Instagram, I was a “small author” yet I still had the most or second most reads in the contest anyway.

I see what you’re saying && I agree with you. Smaller authors have a different point of view, and they feel discouraged in a sense. No matter how much effort less known authors put into a story, they feel like it’s going to waste because nobody within the episode community hardly knows about them. That’s where I’m at now, and I’ve felt this way for the past year. Some authors [small authors] feel the same way :frowning:

No argument here, just a discussion. I respect your opinions && feelings… all good here

oh, what’s this? me using another category of forums instead of Episode Fan Community? maybe I snapped…

lol epic fail

I was supposed to go out with my friends yesterday (it’s the next day, 6 AM) -became 7 AM while writing dis- and I was going to, but I got so mad at them and didn’t go.

Backstory: I go to online school, they go to public school and see each other every day. But they couldn’t plan a freaking hangout :woman_facepalming:t2: How can you see someone 5 TIMES A WEEK and can’t decide on something? They are talking about eating kebab at 11 AM. THATS A HEAVY DISH NOT BREAKFAST WHAT R U DOING??? -,-

Welp, I got mad at them, and didn’t go. I don’t regret it. It was gonna be boring for me since we don’t have a lot of interests and they keep talking about their exes. I’m ace sister what ex do I have -_-

ZEPETO addiction

ughhh i swear this app is so damn good. We needed something like this, the whole humanity needed this. I literally open the app with 10 minute breaks, I’m thinking of opening an IG account for ZEPETO, but I got a problem = I ALREADY HAVE 4 ACCS THAT I HAVE TO KEEP UP WITH ugh.
I’m probably gonna create an acc tho, like a personal+zepeto account. But most ZEPETO users are Korean so is there a point on creating an acc for a language I can’t speak? D:

epic exam on saturday/sunday

ok this sister has exams from 13 classes on weekend. lolololo im so smart that i didn’t study for two damn months, but i can do it. I just gotta figure out where to study and then I’m done. I was studying a lil bit anyway, I’ll just slow down on sleeping and study :ok_hand:t2:

I wouldn’t exactly say “nothing” :smile_cat:

I asked for a bunch of College Day entries so I could read and you suggested yours so I added it to my favorites and read the first episode. I’ll read more of it as I am enjoying it ^^
At the moment, I’m a bit under the weather and sick though :face_with_thermometer:

Being sick sucks, sigh, but it’s a part of life

What is your story about? Isn’t it about the protagonist who falls in love with her best friend’s father? I mean, shouldn’t the title relate to the premise of the story?

Anyways, I’m sorry for bashing your story.

My friend and I came up with an idea to make our own writing platform someday compared to Episode, but better in a sense. I thought about this last year, and I though it would be really cool for me to create my own writing platform. But, I don’t know how to go about doing it. I still might go through with this plan because I know a lot of young people (like myself) love to write and share their stories.

Nothing against Episode, but they don’t really treat people fair. What I mean is: there’s the popular authors group and the less known authors group. Nevertheless, somebody isn’t receiving all the benefits that comes with being an Episode author. Therefore, if I am going to create my own writing platform I have to take my experiences and use them in the process of creating the platform.

Do they fall in love?

Complicated and unknowingly? Perhaps, based on the MC’s choices, but its not the only focus of the story as it focuses mental illness, low socioeconomic struggles, discrimination and prejudices. Many people have been appreciative for the representation and teaching methods of my story, Including the reader who was so bothered by your comment that they had to inform me of it.

So is it cliche? Hmm perhaps because in my opinion, I do think that all stories are “cliche” to a certain extent. I believe that “unique stories” are just cliche stories with a “twist”. Unless of course it’s a serious fantasy story where everything is completely made up and never thought of before. Also, I haven’t found much stories about “best friend’s father” on the app maybe I am searching wrong.

Is my story just a typical story and about the MC simply falling for the BF father? In my opinion… absolutely not. I tend to have morals and teaching points in my stories, that is my writing style for the most part.

Maybe I’ll give your story a read, after all? I’m curious to see what your example of an original small author story is. What is the name of it?
