♥ the ranting thread. (V2) ♥

I actually read about it, and on EPISODE, it’s a form of spamming. That’s why.

Cheers,

@noms I’m not going to tell you not to worry about your grades sine that would be pretty hypocritical of me. But I am going to tell you that grades are not the most important thing in your life. First and foremost, you have to take care of your health. It’s obvious that your homework is very taxing for you and as you may already know that’s due to the fact that you may not have found the appropriate technique for studying.

Firstly I would suggest you to walk, listen to music, eat something, or do anything that relaxes to get you in the mood for homework. In my case I always walk a few blocks to get myself a bar of my favourite chocolate, make myself some extra strong, hot tea and tie my hair up; I have found that to be very useful for me to prepare mentally and to tell myself I?m going to do homework. Doing anything to clear your mind of all other stuff can help you to focus better and get stuff done easier.

Now, I also suggest you to find what kind of learning methods you have, and try to adapt your homework to those methods. It is nearly impossible to do any work through methods that won’t fit your learning processes. For example: I am a very visual learner, so I have to organise my stuff and constantly make mind maps for anything I’m doing, otherwise I won’t be able to do things properly.

I can’t do much other than agree with you. The communication issues that have been going on between us and the staff, and between the different community members are something that bother me to no end. I am not one to appreciate change, but I know we can’t do much about it. Still, it would be a little better if we at least could get our points across and getting to know we actually matter to them.

And if we want that to change we have to keep asking, to keep fighting for that.

time for another round of everyone’s favorite game- am I being the world’s shittiest person,
or is my “friend” being a manipulative asshole? I truly hate me and him.

Thanks so much. I will definitely try some of those things, they seem up my alley. I’ve been having trouble figuring out how I learn as I seem to learn differently for different things, but yeah, definitely sitting in front of my computer in dead silence typing away after a long day of school and various rehearsals is not the best option  I also know I’m probably worrying about nothing since my grades have never really slipped, but I do want to find a more enjoyable way to do my work, or at least more bearable. Definitely will try some different things.

I think the large amount of replies might interfere with the system somehow. This is just a “theory”, though.
But I’m confused about the situation.
What qualifies as a thread potentially being closed? What threads are allowed?

THIS!! THIS IS WHY WE NEED CLARIFIED GUIDELINES!!!

i would’ve accepted that the threads are closed and i would’ve complied with it if they had given us CLEAR and SENSIBLY RATIONAL rules beforehand!! nobody told us we couldn’t re-create 1m, and nobody said chat room threads went against the guidelines either (and before any ignorant person comes at me and says its spam: the thread was rarely spammed and was even replied to less than the 1m replies thread, its sole purpose was to chat about anything that wasn’t episode related.)

we can’t make threads for practically every single topic that comes up in the members only chat room, we’d have an overflowing amount of threads that could go unused for months, years even! navigating all these specific topic threads just to try and chat with our fellow friends makes it more tedious for us.

these mods & admins that gladly join in with us in our chatrooms and even leave funny replies and vote on polls in the chatroom and then STAB our backs by locking them won’t clarify anything for us and be specific about which types of threads go against the guidelines and i have no idea why.
we’re just tired of having thread after thread locked…:sleeping:

Hi! As I wrote in my explanatory posts in those threads I closed, all threads in General Chat must specify a topic and all discussion within a thread must relate to its stated topic. This thread for example, specifies the nature of the posts that belong here (eg. rants, concerns, complaints etc.). But threads with no stated topic (aka “post whatever” threads) invite spamming and so will be closed.

alright, makes sense then, but…

  1. why wasn’t this clarified before, preferably back on the old forums in the “we’re moving!” thread? could’ve saved a lot of unrest & anguish

  2. why were mods & admins participating in these “spam” rooms?? if it was so bad and went against the guidelines, what gives mod & admins the superiority to leave silly replies and vote on polls in the chatrooms and so and then lock the threads?

I can certainly understand the frustrations felt by you and others here on the forums. But I think it’s important to remember that these forums are still in beta, that this move is a large undertaking and we are all engaged in a process. Extending patience to all involved will go a long way in making this transition run as smooth as possible. :v:t2:

Okay, this isn’t so much a rant, this time, as it is me thinking out loud or talking to myself.

So, I did some digging into things. Looking here and there. Thought number one: Pocket Gems… You seem to have a lot of meh money-grabbing games, and yet you prefer to advertise Episode only? Well, also some dragon game, but I’ve never played it nor intend to, as if I wanted an action game I’d play Xbox or something. At least with those games, once you’ve paid for it once you don’t need to pay again (at least that’s how it used to be, until DLC and EA ****** things up.)
Anyway, Episode is a huge game now - well, considering mobile apps don’t grow very big, it’s as big as you can expect. It was a cliche pitch with a very original take. The visual novel and animation, actions instead of narrations, and for the first time it had an easy studio for anyone to create their own on. It was a great game, and not surprisingly has done far better then your other games (I assume, you don’t exactly release statistics, and I’m too lazy to dig that far.) So, I don’t blame you for favouring Episode over half of the other random shiz you make. Episode is a great game… until something changed.

Thought Two: call it a hunch, but I think you got money crazy when a celebrity came your way. Before Demi Lovato, it was just Classic. No gems - if memory serves me right - just passes and ads. The only real complaint people had was having to wait three hours for three passes, and having to watch three adds before every chapter. Thing was, I understood the need for all that. You needed money to pay your teams, to fund the project and pay rent. Ads and passes did that. Sure, it wasn’t much, but as things grew you could think up new ways to grow on that.
But, then you made Ink. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it was a good improvement. A cool new style, more animations (eventually). Customization options and all that. But, then you made Gems, probably a suggestion from someone making the demi stories when you realized ads and passes wouldn’t cut it. Big name, lots of potential new readers. Trust me, I get it. Thing is, you’ve gone downhill from the moment you made those Gem options. (well, I think you have anyway.) First, can’t get certain outfits, then you can’t do certain things. By the end, you play the story of some wuss puss with a missing backbone, dressed like they gave all their clothes to a charity shop, acts like a flimsy wet blanket when a guy walks in their path, and overall just annoys the reader. (Again, my opinion, but still.)
You sacrificed the writing for the sake of click-bait, bullying the reader, and gaining money above all else. I mean, I can’t really say I’m surprised, it would seem that every business with any ounce of influence or income do the same thing. Disney, EA, Apple, Microsoft… At some point, Capitalism gets to them all. Makes you wonder if it’s actually possible to have a strong business that actually just wants to make people’s lives better. Thinking out loud, probably not. I don’t think Human’s are physically able to be that selfless. I think that’s what makes people Human.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always liked the idea of owning a business known for valuing customer satisfaction above making profits. (I’m not having a go or subtly stating anything, I’m literally just stating a fact. I still have that dream, believe it or not.)

Thought 3: Please tell me you didn’t change the theme of this App/Forum because of your demographics.
Yeah, I can guess a hefty portion of your audience are girls. You literally state “such and such amount of girls say they constantly check their phone!” … Okay, let me actually find the quote a sec…
Here it is: “According to Episode’s data, girls ages 13-17 say they check their phone every few seconds.”
Okay, well, I for one don’t, so at least I can proudly say I can rely on my own non-wifi survival skills for more then a few seconds. Heck, I’ve been off my phone for over several months and it’s never bothered me. (Laptop is different. Laptop is my friend, but, to be honest, I can read and write and I’m pretty certain I could easily enjoy myself without good ol’ WALLY-Jr (yes, I named my laptop))
The thing that annoys me with this statistic? One, you have it. I think it’s fair to say guys can be on their phones just as much, but this does show that your data shows a distinctly female audience for your App.
Two. Ages 13-17. I’m almost 20. People I’ve talked to on here also seem to be around that age - higher, lower, doesn’t matter - and those that aren’t have the mentality of someone my age. You’re being very stereotypical. I mean, sure, there is a section of truth, as we can see by what kind of stories feature on the main pages. Thing is, they’re teens. We all look at weird stuff we shouldn’t be as teens, and a lot of the stuff we grow up wishing we hadn’t. Wait…
Wait a gosh darn minute…

Is THAT why you don’t make an effort to fix the featured sections?

Wow… that is low. Okay, for those who can’t read minds, I think I’ve just worked something out. Something that explains why Episode don’t work to change the user story section, and why filth and bad stories are constantly littering the top pages. I could be wrong but boy does it explain their ignorance to it.
If they have those stories. Cliches, bad writing, bad topics, triggering plots etc. The stuff we frequently ask them to monitor. If they leave them in the top, people don’t read user stories. They stay away, don’t take the initiative to find the good few. Some come on the forums, and are met with new writers spamming for reads and very few looking for genuine advice. The rest, they’d likely just turn to the featured stories. Parents may restrict their children to only reading featured stories, stories which can proudly promise don’t go against the apps vague and rarely applied guidelines. And if people do like those stories, yay for the team, more reads!
In short. Having those stories means more reads for featured stories, means more people considering gem choices, means more money.
Again, this is just me linking dots, I could be wrong, but it sounds pretty accurate. At least it give a reason to your ignorance on that topic, but I digress.

Back to my point. So, the statistic shows you’ve clearly got a majoritively young, female audience, right?
Why the bubbles and rainbows?
Yeah, I get it, you want a brighter theme, but geeze did you really have to? Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe you liked a change of colour. A pastel and white logo. pinks and pale blues and all the strong independent female characters, with choices for romance or singing or… ugh!
Mate, you have a majoritively female demographic. You ain’t painting a bloody daycare center. What you might find is that most of the people who actually have to put up with these new forums, this new layout, are majoritively writers. If not professionally then at least by hobby. I liked the blue and white. The bubble text you always used was fair game, twas your choice of font, defined your brand. Thing is, it still looked profesional, while also a little fun. This? This pastel pandemic you’ve ditched us all in? Sure, forums needed an update, but did the whole theme of your brand? I really miss the old style. It didn’t patronise me for using it. It didn’t make me feel like I was using a kid’s game, or was fangirling over some celeb I didn’t even know existed. That, and these new forums are disorganised.
Yes, I’m back on the forums, but heck did you really not listen to us when it came down to it. Can you really blame me for being peeved. Layout wize, I really liked the old forums. I only really realized that today when I got kicked off them so suddenly. I was thinking “Hey, it’s annoying, but maybe I’ll get used to it?” but then that happened, and I just kind of wandered this site like “What the F does half this stuff even do? Why is this here? What’s the point of this? Where’s that thing? Who is this?!” it was crazy.

Okay, this post is getting long. Again, still not even covered half of the stuff i want to say. At this rate, I might as well make my own ranting thread specified at Episode. At least I know it won’t be deleted randomly!
(Ohhh, Buuuuuurn!) Anyways. I’ll stop this for now. Hopefully the old forums are back, and I can continue minding my own business. Till then!

I definitely agree with this. Just because you are introverted doesn’t mean that you have to change. I love the turtle analogy too!!

I agree. I personally prefer not to wear crop tops all the time, especially during the winter. Just because an outfit is conservative doesn’t mean it is not cute.

I’d like to apologize because this isn’t a very serious thing to rant about compared to other rants but I wanted to let it out

I’ve liked this guy twice

Once last year for a while until my best friend started dating him and I kinda… gave up on my feelings

Now I started liking him again back in October but I only told my best friend group in January (the BFF who dated him is in this group) and a while after October he dated ANOTHER one of my best friends which crushed me and again, I gave up for a bit

Until he held my hand (jokingly) and that’s when it came again but I promised myself one thing

If he ever asked me out (though he’d never seriously ask me out) I would refuse because it wouldn’t go or end well, that’s what my best friends who dated him tell me (from their personal experience)

So here I am…

Trying to save myself the pain and hurt of liking someone because I know he’d fall for them again rather than me

Because I’m just me… I’m awkward and weird and he’s popular and funny

I just don’t see us being together realistically though I hope and I dream that one day he’ll look at me the way I look at him

sorry about this rant but I had to let it out

There’s… A lot of jerks in my class. And I’m their main target, whoop(!)

They usually just sidle up to me and put their arms around me. I’ve even heard: “I’ve hugged Joey, now you have to!”

I’m the quiet, socially awkward person who doesn’t fight back. But even my patience has limits, and “just ignoring” them doesn’t seem to do anything.

I’m gonna go Kung Fu Panda on the one day, I swear.

Honestly, I’m in progress of writing a romance story but I don’t want it to be ANYTHING like what you said in the rant, like ew. I agree with you with all the porn stuff. I plan for my story to be a true romance and not have like 10 million guys running after the main character and her just like omg i won’t decide.
Yes, I do like romance stories but I dislike watching porn on episode like…

…You’re right. They do sound like jerks. What is even running through their minds when they say rude comments like that? Have they heard of respect and boundaries? My advice to you is to go talk to someone about it that you trust if you’re too afraid to speak up. And trust me, you won’t be in trouble if you do. Don’t just sit there and let it happen, they’ll begin to believe that they will always be able to do this without consequences. Nothing is going to happen if you don’t actively seek for change. Show them what they’re doing is wrong. Speak up for all the jerk’s other targets and be their voice.

And please, the day when you go ‘Kung Fu Panda’ on them, bring me with you. I’d like the satisfaction of seeing their stunned reaction.

Please note that Episode does not officially have their own Discord server. Any servers being run with the name Episode in them were created by individual users. Just an FYi and thanks! :peace_symbol:

rant

School is going to start soon.
I don’t know what should I do. I don’t have friends. And honestly, I feel that most of the people who go to my class see me as if I was weird and annoying.
The people who I have to do homework with; (I don’t know how to explain it) are two girls who are extremely negative and make sarcastic comments saying that I’m stupid.

I feel isolated, and I’ve lost inspiration to do anything that I like. I hate feeling like that, especially because I’ve started to overcome my self-esteem problems, and now I feel insecure again.
