If you’ve read Side Chick’s Guide to Revenge, you have to customize every single one of the MC’s squad (which is like 10 other ppl). Tbh, I love the story, I just don’t think it’s necessary
Like, are you tryna show off or you just genuinely lazy to create an acceptable character?
And with family members, it’s worse, cough in Me + Three cough, the author had us customize our bae, bae’s mother and father!!!
Like, I had to check out of that story really quickly! It’s not hard for you just customize the mother and father based on the bae!!!
I do it in all my stories.
I struggled with Gravity. It was one thing to customise the first family (you also have to name EVERYONE) then in Episode 2 you had to do it again for your best friend’s family
. I started naming characters stupid things like “SGHKSDJGSKJ” then realised I should probably stop and wait until I had patience. (It’s now like a whole year later and I haven’t found that patience.)
Lol! That’s what I did on some stories too. And the thing about Side Chick’s Guide to Revenge is that the characters we got to customize were characters that were made to look how they did to honor some of the author’s friends. I think it kind of takes away from the point if you let the reader change how those characters look when they were MADE to look like other ppl.
Yes. And half way through there was another re-customise character chapter and I couldn’t remember what I had named all of them
- I can deal with basic directing but if the directing is really bad, then it is tough to read.
- Everyone can have a few grammar errors but many and consistent grammar errors are tough to read.
- Pregnancy cliches.
- Too much narration
- Characters wearing the same outfit every day or limited clothing choices
I don’t care about CC that much. However if you do it, it should work with other family members and be consistent.
I don’t like unrealistic stories in the sense the romance is forced or not portrayed in a positive way. Also I like choices but there doesn’t have to be tons of them, as long as the choices that are there are good. I feel sometimes people feel you got to have many choices and then people just add clothing and food choices because they are not sure what choices to use. A few worthwhile choices are better than a lot of choices. I fall into the trap of some unnecessary choices but I worry that my story doesn’t have enough choices so I put them in there.
I kept all their default looks and named them what the author suggested. At least I didn’t have to think of names.
In Gravity you have to come up with like 20 names and yeah… no thanks. I have enough trouble coming up with names for my own stories
Story pacing.
When you can easily tell the author really wants to get to a certain scene so they either jump straight to it or make filler scenes which are boring. Then when they do get to that scene they really want to write, it just goes downhill because there is nothing interesting after.
Yes, I like it when they give you an option for a default name and allow you to keep their looks.
When authors are fvckin rude for no reason.
Yeah i get its ur story but be nice to the ppl who read it. If i ask for more conservative clothing dont be a jerk and say “well u dont have to read it u should b gratful blah blah”
Or
If i dont like the MC doing something i wouldnt do(meaning both choices are terrible) i get the same flak.
Or
They like to get snarky and add message choices at the end sayin stuff like
“the MC wont act like u so u can click the door if tht bothers u(translation shell b rude and a hoe)”
"Im not answering these questions in my fanmail again ill delete them(just ignore them)
"You cant customize i dont wanna include tht coding/“you cant cc if u hate tht then leave”
When i cant customize the character(s)
the MC specifically and love intrest) i dont wanna play as beach wavy chestnut(or blondie) hair MC whos suppose to b “diffrent” from everyone
Covered already but when MCs actions are just rude or dumb. MC can be rude and roll her eyes to everyone but its ok cuz thts her personality. She can cheat and thts ok too. She gets to sass everyone and no one calls her on her BS. But when someone confronts her all of a sudden MC is the helpless victim >-> I dont want to play as miss “so sassssy so stwong”(shes not)
Edit:im not emphasizing anything specifc ignore any overly huge texts or unecessarily bolded things
So im not choosing the MCs apperance…and i get barely any choices…for a choose ypur story app I dont get much of a choice in anything(i guess i get to choose to read ur story) No im not bashing authors but still just a rant
Yes! There have been stories that I would get hooked to in the beginning and be totally in love with, but then it would just keep repeating the same pattern over and over again (repeating basically the same thought speech, making the same exact mistake, ect.) and i would just get annoyed and feel like I was wasting my time reading the same thing just in a different episode. I don’t really feel this way so much with stories that are only 20 chapters or less, but when a story reaches over 20 chapters it can be hard to think of new concepts that stick to the same story line and keep it interesting.
Things that sometimes turn into instant turn off are
Awful grammar/spelling
The most cliche story lines
Love triangles where you can’t chose who you want
And definitely too much exposition, if your still introducing characters and building a foundation by epidode 12, it’s a no go
I love long stories, seeing as I have a lot of free time, and I want to put my passes towards a story that is long enough for it to be worthwhile. What I really hate though, is when there’s several really exciting events that happen during the chapter, but the author ends it on a minor cliffhanger, instead of possibly lengthening the script in some way so an event that happens at the end makes you so eager to read on, you literally smash the buttons to get to the next chapter. I also dislike romance stories. They’re just so cliche and cringy. Once, I got into a story that was kinda romantic (the Enchantress) but that was because it was intriguing, and there were other things happening besides the romance. I enjoy stories based around people that are different and they struggle with bullying and people treating them differently. Sometimes, when they are really good stories, I want to scream at the MC that there is nothing wrong with the way they are and they are perfect.
Oh my gosh. I know some people might not like dressing games, but I totally agree with you to the max on the limited clothing options. I HATE HATE HATE seeing the characters with the same tired old outfits in every single episode. I’m not saying you have to give them an unlimited closet or make five outfits for your love interest’s mom’s cousin’s friend or things like that, but talking about our main characters here… please change their clothes from time to time! And make their clothes appropriate for the weather/season or place they’re supposed to be at. It’s Christmas in New York and your MC is wearing a sundress in an outdoors scene?! She’s wearing jeans and a jacket to work, to the gala event, and to hang out with her friends? Come on, people!
Agree. However I don’t mind if there isn’t any cc, I would rather the author right the story and create the characters the way they envisioned it. I understand that maybe skin color or hair has nothing to do with the advancement of a story. But in the real world when people go to audition for a movie or show the interviewer is searching for the person who fits the character they are about to play best. Like if the writer of a movie calls for a tall african american girl, then they want ppl who fit tht look but could also play the part.
I could not agree more. You said it very well!
When none of the charcters have any depth or growth just cliches and stereotypes.
I like cc I’m more likely to play if it has cc but with cc I only want to customise the MC and any love interests only. None of let’s customise this charcters that have no meaning to the story or the MC.
Also stop with the cliche popular girl and bad boy drives me nuts already know how the story going to go stop the madness of cliches.
I agree and disagree with your statements. Sometimes author don’t obey reader’s demands for more conservative or unconservative clothing, because it does not fit the MC’s characters. In those cases, I feel like what the author is doing is okay
