Things in stories that make you NOT want to finish

Another thing I don’t like is that there are usually only two kinds of main characters. The Weak Introvert and The Sassy yet still Average Girl.

I only hate it when they use the whole time the animation idle in a converstation or just stands in the same posistion when the character is suppossed to have a conversation. but that’s all I like all the other topic’s

Agreed. Especially when the characters stay in a weird position after an animation.

  • Awful or lack of grammar and punctuation.
  • When the MC’s parents are dead and she’s adopted, but her foster parents treat her like crap (do people even realize not all foster parents are monsters? I mean, agencies actually run multiple background checks on them!)
  • When the author’s note is longer than the actual chapter
    E.g. Hi!!!
I’m a new author!!! Don’t judge me if my story is not good!
Follow me on IG, I’m doing a HUGE giveway!
My insta is xxxxx, go follow me!
First episodes are short but I’m still wasting my time to type all this! *goes on for 3 minutes, which is basically half of the episode.

    etc…
  • Characters pop up after scene starts. (Very bad directing; although, if I see effort, I’ll definitely give it a chance. )
  • Fourth Wall breaks wayyyyyyy too much
  • When the only thing that matters to the MC is to decide what Love Interest she wants to end up with, and somehow it takes her 56 episodes to do just that.
  • Lack of diversity (PLEASE REALIZE THAT BLACK PEOPLE, ASIAN PEOPLE, MUSLIM PEOPLE, BI-RACIAL PEOPLE, LGBTQ + PEOPLE, ECT, ECT, ECT, ARE NOT JUST CHARACTERS !!! They are people too, but somehow authors just add them for the sake of diversity! POC and LGBTQ have feelings too, they have backstory too! So stop putting them as the useless best friend, and maybe go in depth with their personality!
  • Backgrounds from the portal ONLY… I mean, I saw those about 39276139488362 times!
  • The overused and lazy plot twists: love interest’s ex magically reappears, love interest cheats on MC with her and/or his/her HUGE secret is revealed, then they have to stay away from each other for a while before finally getting back together and having loooooooots of children…
  • When the MC is completely “good” or “bad” ; characters are people too… they have their own personality.
  • Gang stories/illegal activities. They are the only trope that REALLY bothers me. I mean, there is always the “good” illegal peeps, whose system is okay because they treat their employees decently, and then there are the “bad” illegal peeps who are basically just enemies because they always have been. For instance, if the good ones go to war and kill off some enemies for no reason, MC is just going to support it, while if it’s her love interest who is captured/else, she is going to “get revenge.” I just hate when these stories are totally unrealistic and the love interest enjoys killing everyone off or doesn’t care about women/anyone else, but for some reason when he’s with the MC he becomes suddenly “soft and caring.”
*When the MC is suddenly noticed by 4 love interests IN A MATTER OF SECONDS only because a major change was made (makeover, money,…) or when the MC takes three hundred years just to realize she likes this person…like, come on! Maybe it’s just me, but it doesn’t take me five years to find out I have always liked my best friend :expressionless:

To quickly resume: I HATE READING STORIES WHO LACK REALISM!! I want to see people/situation that I can relate to. I want to see what other people are going through and HOW they pull themselves out of it. Basically, I want to see the world I live in from another angle! Even if you are writing a fantasy or comedy story, there should be elements that resemble at least a bit of real life.

I agree that stories need realism–unfortunately, it’s fantasy that draws in viewers, and it’s sex/romance that keeps them hooked.

A little off-topic, but the best friend-turned-boyfriend trope has a 50/50 fail rate in real life, and Episode stories seem to try and portray that it always happens and always lasts.
At one point, me and my own best guy-friend contemplated dating each other, but then we realized if we had major fights, both the friendship and relationship would be ruined. I’m glad we don’t date–we’ve had maybe a fallout with one another once a year. Literally.
I’d appreciate it if authors included realistic imperfections in relationships, and longer-lasting fallout from fights…

YESS!!! I NEED REALISM!!
So, rant time.
I 1000% get that people read for an escape, I do as well, but I NEED it to be based in reality for certain things for me to get invested. There are some thing I’m willing to overlook - like insta-love, because I’m a romantic and believe in love at first sight, even if all the men in the school insta-love the MC.
Bu then there are other things, like the MC finding out LI is a vampire/werewolf/fairy/alien.
What doesn’t work: MC accepts it right away, and the story moves forward with her exploring the new world.
What does work: MC obviously doubts this because 'fill-in-the-blanks ‘aren’t real’ and a big part of the story is her coming to terms with this new reality.
What’s needed: Give me a story where the MC has a realistic reaction to what she’s stumbled upon. I want at least two chapters of her denying it and approaching it from a logical conclusion before she STARTS to accept this new reality. If she just blindly accepted it, she’d be, well…I don’t want to say daft, but I would think she was easily led by others.
I get you have to have some suspended belief to read things like fantasy, but give me some footing in reality. It’s not always easy to do this, sometimes it can be really painful to write because it takes a lot of extra work, but I want ya’ll to know it is GREATLY appreciated when it’s done, and I get way more invested in the story.

This is true… if my boyfriend had been, in fact, a mythical creature all along our relationship, I would start seriously questioning myself and my decisions.

I don’t really understand it either tbh I think its disgusting how story-tellers just decide to randomly throw pregnancy around like trash that’s just my personal opinion though i don’t mean anything by it  :sob:

I honestly wish they were a bit more realistic with pregnancy. Not everyone throws up, not everyone knows immediately, not every baby lives in utero, and not every person wants to keep the baby. I’m more appalled when pregnancy is used as a random, yet short-lived arc for drama.

It’s witchcraft. I swear, not a single story I’ve read features an abortion, and only one features a miscarriage. Maybe Episode considers abortion is against the guidelines?

I just wanna know how everyone gets pregnant so easily.

There are people who try for months…sometimes years and never have a successful pregnancy.
Yet MC has sex once and suddendly there’s this whole story line of her being pregnant.

Indeed…

And the characters never seem to have contraceptives. It’s always a heat of the moment thing.
And if she IS on something, she always forgets it.

Ugh I hate that.

One thing I will say about the birth control thing though, I actually had a pregnancy scare in college. I was on birth control and used condoms. There was a period of time where I was late, and I thought I had to be the unluckiest person in the world.
A pregnancy test revealed though, that I wasn’t pregnant. I just missed my period because of stress.
It’s likely to get pregnant on birth control (especially if you’re careless with taking it) but it’s still very difficult.

Why is pregnancy a story arc I hate it so much.

Its like Lucky’s story Dirty Sexy Teenagers was bloody amazing because it had realism, hard work, character, and origionality the four segments that every story needs to have Chain reaction another bloody amazing story that had those four segments that i mentioned before I mean yes it did include pregnancy but it had a reason If the story has a reason for including pregnancy then I’m fine with it

Yeah, I agree with everything except the fact that it’s directed towards kids … Because episode is 13+ and everybody who is 13 or older already knows about this stuff from school … .I belive 13 year old boys already watch porn mags and films and masturbate. If a child signs ups, it’s her/his own fault for breaking the rules. I’m not trying to be rude, I just think 13 year old girls who read this actually want to read this becuase their hormones are going wild but they are still too young for pornos, even softcore.

I really hate it when writers do this

CHOICE:

  1. Date Hrvoje
  2. Date Đermano

Hmmm … I’m definetly picking Germano, Hrvoje was a complete and utter arsehole to me … I hated him since the moment I saw him on the screen … Just makes me sick …

Janja: Đermano I pick you! (Pokemon! Gotta catch em’ all!)

Later on in

Hrvoje: You had your chice and you picked him!

Janja: Hrvoje, that choise has been really hard.

Me: not it wasn’t

Janja: I do still have feelings for you, I just thing I have a stronger connection with Đeronimo.

Me: Stronger is a understatement. Your relationship with him is like the relationship with Greece and Macedonia … Should be kept away from each other as much as possible

Janja: I don’t know what I would do if I lost you.

Me: Maybe … Celebrate?

Janja: I don’t want to loose you

Me: UGHHHHHH Shut up! I hate him and I obviously want you to hate him too …

Oh now Đeronimo caught us talking … Well shit now he thinks I shuld wear a scarlett letter A sewn on my clothes … See Hrvoje ruins everything.
