Bigotry (like other people have said), I can’t and won’t stand for discriminatory jokes and content.
Idk if other people agree but when the writer tries to force a love interest who is generally not a good person onto the reader or makes it so there is only one love interest who happens to be a total jerk, like idk I just don’t like it. So what that he has a sad backstory? Why does the MC have to just tolerate mean treatment until the LI realises he shouldn’t be rude and that he loves her. I can totally understand a little bit of sarcasm and mean teasing but some LIs are just so so rude and honestly abusive.
Other things I find offputing:
step-sibling LIs (idk no just no)
odd spot directing where the woman are just so tiny and the men are super tall (it makes me feel uncomfy)
MC having a glow-up and their before just being them with glasses (whats wrong with hotties with glasses)
authors who put misleading Trigger Warnings like “TW a few mentions of xyz” but xyz is fully discussed in 8 of the chapters
when CC is included but no warning of art scenes like lol I get yanked out of the scene all of a sudden when those art scenes come out and its completely different looking people
Lmaooo the glow up one is so true! or they have braces and like pimples or wtv and than they don’t have it anymore they’re more “pretty” as if there was something wrong with braces😒
romance-driven plots in comedy stories that aren’t labeled “romcom” in the description
maybe that doesn’t make sense but not all stories need a LoVe InTeReSt to be funny (or maybe thats’s just my aromantic and asexual and romance-hating self)
FINALLY SOMEONE SAID THIS. ROM-COMS ARE COMEDIES PPL! Comedies carried by a romance plot. Just bc the MC slips on a banana and the LI catches her is not the definition of a comedy-driven romance.
-Movies like Think like a Man Too are beautiful examples of a proper room-com
there was a story i realllyyyy liked but the author never updated( I waited literally a whole YEAR) …And now I only read "completed"stories🙂.AND recommend only “COMPLETED” stories
Whew I had a lot to say about this topic in 2018 and I still feel strongly about the importance of good, positive stories!! Relatedly, I just made a post to see if anyone would be interested in helping me out with making a possible Episode-related research study. <3
Give me a vampire mafia story!! Like the vampire LI eliminate his mafia-enemies, by doing his vampire thing. If you want to read a good fantasy story read ‘Cat Paws And Wolf Claws’ by AngelWings it has totally diversity of fantasy characters!! Sorry for the self-promo. With fantasy it’s always vampires and or werewolves and mafia-stories are always about a toxic criminal LI. Be original, make a story that isn’t cliche. No mean girls, werewolves, vampires, toxic LI’s, criminal LI’s, criminal MC’s, creeps popping out of an alley or besties that stab you in the back.
Even worse … When they sleep together in the first episode … Usually the MC would either regret it or wouldn’t remember it but still … Like at least make us oike them before pushing them into bed together
i really dislike when stories have bad grammar/punctuation, like a few minor errors are totally fine because i totally understand if an author’s first language isn’t english, but when the bad grammar is constant, it really bothers me! proofreading is so important in a story to me, so when there’s endless grammar mistakes, i don’t even bother to finish.
i also hate the stereotypes and some cliches, especially when it’s bad boy x shy girl and he literally bullies her like absolutely not! stereotypes that bother me is the gay best friend who’s somehow always obsessed with fashion?? the gender and racial stereotypes irritate me SO much . another thing that i hate is when there’s no POC characters or if there is, it’s also extremely stereotypical! all i ask is for DECENT diversity with all types of characters.
i HATE when the fmc is TOO weak or don’t have a backbone, like that is not cute at all . shallow mc’s are way too common, and then i don’t want to finish them. other types of mc’s i hate are the pick me, "i’m not like other girls bc i don’t wear makeup), the mc who has a glow up when actually she took off her glasses and braces (??) and the blonde mean girl (especially in high school stories).
i dislike it when stories have gem choices (which is why i love community stories with my entire heart) and the gem options are RIDICULOUS. like wdym
“wear an actual cute outfit- 250 gems
getting married in sweatpants - free!” ???
that is so stupid to me and i always stop reading. speaking of, stories that have ATROCIOUS outfits. they make me cringe sm like it’s not that hard to create good outfits and let readers enjoy stories by not wasting gems on wearing decent outfits!!
lastly, i hate it when stories are never completed but are AMAZING otherwise. like i don’t want to wait for 3 years for my fav author to complete the story!! this is why i only look at completed stories OR stories that have 40 + episodes. stories that have over 70 episodes i feel like are too much; i think that a second book would’ve just been better!
Vague content warnings. I can handle violent scenes and curse words, I can’t handle rape and child abuse. PLEASE be specific. If it’s a spoiler, pull an imdb and ask “are you sure you want to see the content warnings?”. If you can code a minute long intro with advanced directing, you can code a simple question in the beginning of the story.
