Things that turn you away from stories

  • Confusing customization templates. Sometimes authors make customization super hard to navigate (mostly the visual ones), I’ll survive though.
  • Bad grammar. I don’t mind a few spelling errors and grammatical errors but I probably won’t finish the story if there’s a grammatical error in every line.
  • Bad storytelling. Sometimes it feels like the author does more of telling than showing and or the story just moves at a very slow or fast pace.
  • A useless episode with nothing useful. Things can be explained throughout the story, it’s just not a good idea to just dump it all into one episode, I have a very short attention span and I’m sure everyone else does too. And customization episodes, I consider those pretty useless since they serve no purpose to the storyline. I probably won’t click away immediately if there are customization episodes but it’s just a waste of passes…
  • A very long loop of something. Sometimes the looping just kinda lasts for way too long and gets boring.

I don’t like supernatural stories. Like wolves or vampires or anything.

Grammatical errors.

I don’t like long stories unless I’m really interested.

Also, yesterday I believe, one of the people on the forums made a topic about this story they came across about them talking about their fetish for human hearts?? Uh, no fetish stories pls.

I don’t like romance stories with a bad ending :frowning:

I also don’t like when the LI and the MC hook up to fast. Like in the 4th episode theyre already in love

Yea it’s called Heal Your heart and the MC is a cardiophile (someone who has a fetish for hearts) literally the entire story goes against episode guidelines

When the MC or LI have major jealousy issues. :face_vomiting:
When the MC or LI like each other too much.
When directing is horrible.
When the plot is confusing.
When details in the story are inaccurate. For example - I messaged an author on how they used American words in a story set in England. They told me that they were doing it so the majority of readers would understand (she apparently has British friends so she already knew) and I was like ok, I am sorry I didn’t know. But then in her story she said they would go to the gun shop. They were in a shopping centre in the UK but said there was a gun shop. If you know anything about the UK I think you get what the problem is.
Really poor spelling and that is coming from someone who is horrible at spelling.

I try to read until the end expecting a redemption arc from troubled characters, but then it doesn’t happen, and I wasted my time expecting to have a moral at the end jaja,

I didn’t even bother to message her because I didn’t want drama. She is a big author she would have just complained and make me feel wrong for correcting her.

some “big” authors need to pipe it down a lil

  • When they always make the MC seem badass when they really just look stupid.
  • not a good plot
  • having the same storyline as every other story
  • promoting toxic relationships
  • promoting any sort of rape, suicide or racial prejudice
  • bad gang/mafia stories

If you going to write a story you need to know what your writing about.

*First Chapter is only Customization-This is so annoying! I don’t need to customize literally everyone in the story, that’s not important! Or a lot of the time the author has like 3 templates saying it’s too much code, which is ridiculous.
*When the LI is “the hottest guy” at some club or whatever, and then they pan to their head from the ground
*2 LI’s when the author clearly has a preferance. That is not 2 LI’s, that is just another option who you don’t even get to spend time with!
*Annoying LI’s and MC’s
*Long intros and outros
There’s a lot more, I’ll edit this later

Exactly! Unfortunately, it’s very common in popular stories…
And because of the author’s preference, I choose the 2nd love interest.

Ah I always choose the one the author doesn’t like haha! Idk why, it only makes me madder but I can’t help it

Breaking Boundaries by Maite and Melia… I usually LOVE their stories, even though they’re very mafia driven. However literally in the first three episodes you have an MC who has been sold to a mafia boss by her father, on the wedding night it says how she doesnt want to have sex with him but the scene is them half naked kissing (non consensual assault!) And the mafia boss slaps the MC and burns all her clothes.

I just cannot get behind that plot! Especially when women being sold to marry to men is a very real issue in some countries.

I mean, they havent particularly ‘glorified it’ but I feel like it’s just not appropriate for a platform where the audience includes young girls…

I thought that this habit was actually less common nowadays, but seems not. I completely agree that it turns me away from a story. It’s just pointless.
I clicked on a story just the other week and the first episode came up with customisation of the MC and LI, then just a narration box once that was done, saying that first episode was just customisation and to tune into the next chapter.
Given I didn’t even change anything on the characters, it took less than a minute. Quickest episode ever :rofl:

This right here! I’ve started hating stories with 2li because of this.

Summary

SS from the billion bachelors by Nightshifter

People taking diversity for granted.

Women or girls when wearing traditional outfits (which they usually wear during traditional ocassions/family functions like weddings and NOT during things like parties) wear bindis, traditional jewellery etc. The only traditional Indian outfit which can be found in the episode portal for now is the Saree.

When not wearing traditional outfits, that is, when dressing in normal/western clothes, Indian women or girls hardly ever wear a bindi or wear any traditional accessories. They just dress how yall do. But yep, they don’t wear too revealing clothes.

If you really, really wanna add our culture to your story, please do some research or else do not. Somethings aren’t offensive but they show how much you care or pay attention to things.
