That sounds so beautiful!!!
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you for making this thread.
No problem!!
No problem! Glad I could help!!
Hey, thanks for making this thread!
I apologize in advance for the lengthy explanation/clarification. (The overall message is that there is a lot of diversity in terms of physical features for Indians, as well as in terms of cultural practices- but that’s for another time). ![]()
I just wanted to clarify that there’s actually a lot of diversity in skin tones for Indians. (There are a lot of people who have a brown skin tone among many shades of brown, but it isn’t uncommon to also find naturally fair Indians- which generally has nothing to do with European colonists). I guess it’s more common to find people in north India with a lighter skin tone compared to certain southern states, but there are still plenty of fair people from the south as well (like a few of my grandparents and my mother).
Also, it’s more common to have brown or hazel eyes, but there are people with green eyes and from my understanding, even fewer people with other eye colors like blue or grey. There are Indians with curly, wavy, and straight hair, though I personally know more people with almost straight or wavy hair. Eye shape also varies.
Ultimately, Indians just have a lot of diverse features. ![]()
Additionally, in terms of food- it just depends on where you live and how your family is. Different states in India have their own cuisines. (However, I think many teens and young adults do enjoy eating food from other countries in India). If you’re in a country outside of India, some people tend to go for more western food. On the other hand, there are people who typically eat (at least in the house) what they would get from their home state in India.
Rice is more commonly eaten and utilized in South Indian dishes (like certain dosas and idlis) to be eaten with side dishes. They also utilize things like semolina (for upma). North Indian dishes don’t really rely on rice as much and are more well-known by other countries for food like wheat-based flat breads like naan (to be eaten with a side dish), and dishes like poori, pao bhaaji, etc.
(Edit: I found out that biryani actually originates from Persia and has been popularized in southern and northern parts of India, where there are different versions of the dish).
Oh! I had no idea, thank you for correcting me
It’s not bad, but it isn’t my fave.
Omg biryani is so good!
Hi! I’m kind of late to the conversation
But here’s somethings I’ve seen from my experiences. I’m Japanese, Chinese, and the tiniest bit Thai, but my community has a large Asian population, so I have a lot of Asian friends.
Regarding How We Look
I’m kind of in-between Gold 02, Gold 03, and Neutral 03. the Gold 02/03 comes from my dad who is a solid Gold 04 (but he’s very tan because he spends the entire summer outside). My mom, on the other hand, is a bit paler with some brown-ish freckles. She’s borderline Neutral 03/Gold 02.
Yes, I hate the eye thing!!! I have the widest eyes out of my entire family and I’ve been told, on more than on occasion, things like:
“You’re not really Asian, you have big eyes”
“Are you Asian? You don’t have small eyes”
“Are you adopted, because your eyes sure don’t look Asian to me…”
etc.
It’s actually quite hurtful and really doesn’t represent all of us.
I do have medium eyelashes, like my dad, but my mom, brother, and sisters have barely any eyelashes.
My friend has the most gorgeous, drop-dead, blue eyes.
My entire family has light brown/dark brown/bordering on black eyes. They’re pretty and very common, so don’t go putting blue eyes on every single Asian character.
(Also take note that you CAN NOT have a green-eyed parent and a blue-eyed child or vice versa unless they’re adopted)
My hair is the straightest, thickest hair you will find anywhere. for every school dance I wanted to curl my hair, by the time the dance was over, my hair was perfectly straight. Generally, if hair does get short, it happens around 50/60.
Regarding Attitude
That is so true! I’m on the sassy side, along with my brother, sister, and dad. But my other sister and my mom are definitely on the sweet side.
Regarding Food we like
I love pizza, fast food, all that crap you’re not supposed to eat but do anyways.
Yeah, I personally don’t like sushi that much. I hate eating plain rice, and I love soy sauce, but then again I’d take a bath in it if I could, so I’m going to go out on a limb here and say it’s just me
I love all the meats, bun, etc. but I have tofu. I would also have a noodle bath, again probably just me
You also might want to add something about generations. Here’s what I know depending on my family, friends, etc. It’s probably not all correct, but this is just what I see.
-
1/2 Gen (Immigrants) - They are very traditional and unless they are young when they moved, they are not embracing the new country as much as other gens.
-
1st Gen (Parents Immigrated) - 1sts gens are generally molded like their parents at a young age and go on to do new things as an adult with some restrictions.
-
2nd Gen - They are usually a bit more adventurous than 1st gens, but still a bit cautious when making decisions.
-
3rd Gen - I’m a 2 1/2 gen I’m more like a 3rd gen. We were born into a world of technology (usually) and are more courageous and adventurous than any past gen.
-
4+ Gen - There are very few of these generations nowadays, but they are the ones that will climb the highest mountains and have the biggest dreams.
If you want to, you can tell people to tag me, idc
Wow so much more useful information, I have barely any eyelashes as well and I have to use this oil thing to make them thicker and longer.
Thanks!
That’s fine!!
No need of any measurement tools😑
Just your intuition n belief on cooking gods. That’s cooking at its finest

Yessss so true
The first time I visited Japan, I was actually surprised at how widespread typical fastfood was. My anecdotal experience is that fast food is more popular in developed Asia than one might expect, but… It’s anecdotal.
A pizza in Japan is, by the way, absolutely different to Western pizza. Western style pizza joints in Japan seemed to be run by mostly Western immigrants. I’d say the pizza is definitely made to Japanese tastes, but I have to admit I prefer Okonomiyaki, which is kind of a pizza-omelette? Kind of!
Also, there’s a green tea variant of every kind of candy/ice cream/chips there.
Anyways! Still a ton of interesting information.
I think it’s bcus of the culture. I mean Asians luvs spices so most of the ppl won’t be eating fast food if it doesn’t have the local spice. An example will be Al Baik is big fast food chain in middle East which is competing with KFC. Ppl luv Al Baiks Fried Chicken bcus it got that spice which ppl luv in there cooking. Something missing in KFC
Makes sense! One of the most popular fast food chains in Japan that wasn’t an American brand was these donburi joints, which was absolutely delicious by the way, and it’s kind of a curry. But most of Japanese food is really strong for me, full of flavors and all.
My Norwegian taste buds are used to extremely bland food, with salt as the most “out there” spice. Cod and salt. Lamb and salt with cabbage. Fermented fish in a burrito for some reason. Our food is so terrible ;-;
me here just crying in the corner ;-;
I’ll eat spice but I have very specific taste buds ![]()
One of my characters is from Thailand, and I don’t know much
I did read that Thailand was known as Siam until 1932, and my story is set in 1931.
If anyone has any advice, lemme know cuz I’m trying not to get anything wrong
A lot of South Asians, especially Indian people, have round eyes. Some of them have green eyes, too.
