Thoughts on free art covers/scenes?

Honestly, I usually don’t charge people just because I’m not confident in my artwork yet. However, once I get more experience I will start charging, because drawing stuff can take hours out of my days / weeks (and I have a life outside of all of this too ). So when artists charge for their art, it makes sense. As long as I’m not paying over $50 for a headshot, there’s really no reason why I wouldn’t pay my artist. You know? While I get the appeal of free art, at some point it’s reasonable to start charging.

Definitely charge your art! Your style screams fabulous giorno too:sob: I’m pretty sure most of people on forum want free art, but there’s still a few people willing to pay! Also don’t be afraid to put the price high, charge for the amount you think it’s worth your time and anything :sparkles: keep up your work!!

Also, I’d recommend promoting on instagram as there are more adult author who’s willing to pay for art (speak from my experience)

Understandable :skull: I know creating new account seems a bit extra, you may post very few episode related so people know or collect your episode commission in ig story?

I’m also an artist and also a university student so I completely understand your feelings.

At first I also was surprised but then I realized that a lot of of people who ask for free arts are financially incapable. Most of them are still underage students so spending money on a art is difficult for them while they are still dependent on their family’s finances.
However, that does not mean artists like us cannot be able to do the things we deserve!
The cost of effort and time for our arts can exceed a person’s spending, but that cannot make our arts any less valuable!
For these reasons, nothing can stop a talented artist like you open commissions :sparkling_heart: Don’t worry, be confident with your decision! :muscle:t2:

To tell you more about free arts. Honestly, sometimes I do art for free because of my passion for drawing and to practice to get more experience. if I have free time, I will draw for free for some authors who have great stories but not many readers know yet. However, the number of art requests are always much  The people who ask for free arts are always a lot. Some people require their details so elaborate that I don’t think I can do them for free anymore!

thanks for your great reply! :sparkling_heart:
yeah, i didn’t realise that many were underage here, that changes it a lot. i understand that it’s harder for them to pay since they’d have to ask for an adult’s help. i hope they know their limits though bc as you’re saying, i hope those who do offer free art don’t get too heavily requested and that the requests aren’t too elaborated and detailed since they’re getting it for free.

Hey there!
First of all, you’ve got an amazing art style so I immediately followed you :fire:

Second thing, and I’m saying this from the “artist” point of view since I’m also one, you shouldn’t really look at this episode community, here people are amazing and everything but just a few would actually commission something here, they offer many free covers, scenes,… (So you don’t really have many people looking for paid art)
You should dive in the Instagram community, it’s chaotic no doubts, but there you have a way wider “market” on which you can share your art, and many people willing to pay :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Maybe it’s because I’m an artist myself that I’m saying this, but I think that art should not be free, it takes hours of your time, focus and creativity, so I think that there should be at least a lil reward, obviously free art is amazing because you don’t have to spend a cent.

I have cheap commissions but you should decide your prices basing them on which consideration you have of your art. You spend 15 hours on a piece? You do many details? You create even your own backgrounds?
Let them pay more.
You can start from lower prices at first but then higher them judging how much is worth your art, and just looking at it, believe me, it is worth it :blue_heart:

Most people don’t see at as actual job, I agree way to many people here ask for free art, I get art is expensive, I don’t even wanna pay for art which is why I draw my own, but because I draw I understand why it’s so expensive. Most people here are teens who don’t earn money, but the rest just don’t have respect for art. I find it’s more annoying they want people to spend hours on an art for a story they barely started,

ah thank you! :pleading_face::heartbeat:

i did hear that i should go on instagram but i have no idea how to get noticed there ahaha :grimacing: i don’t want to be an episode only account, i wanna have everything in one place which makes it a bit difficult. and idk if i feel like starting a 2nd art account just for episode…

i do have a price guide since when i opened commissions earlier in other fandoms, it’s hard bc i know i deserve a sum but i feel bad for asking for so much. i just can’t win :pensive:

Nope don’t feel bad for asking what you think it’s a reasonable price :hugs:

Plus it’s not really necessary  I could spam your account on my insta stories, no biggie.
Plus you just have to enter in the community by posting something that connects you to some authors that may repost on their stories your drawing, some fan art for example.

Then when you’re in, everything will get better ^^
