So i’ve seen stories with limited customization (which include not letting the reader change the skin tone) and when I read the fan mail, so many people complain about that and I am interested in making a specific story but the problem is the skin tone for the main character wouldn’t be allowed to be changed because it plays a huge roll in the story but I also don’t want to be attacked for it and be called racist so I really don’t know.
What do y’all think about this?

No, i don’t care if there is limited cc.
I have limited cc for my story and I haven’t got any complaints.
I do explain that there are art scenes and if they customize , it wont match.
But I do let them have full cc for the LI

if it plays a main role in the story then you shouldnt let them change in it in my opinion…i personally dont care for the skin tone…TBH it shouldnt be a problem but some people just like to make their characters look a certain way

I personally don’t like CC at all, unless it’s supposed to be a “you” story.
I also just like seeing the way the author imagines their own characters, but a lot of people do want CC.
Honestly, it’s up to you. Some people will attack you for not having/having limited cc either way, so I’d say just do what you want.

Honestly i agree.
For example:
You write about a curtain culture, let’s say Indian.
You will not let the reader change the character to have blonde hair pale skin and colored eyes, right?
It’s your story hun!

Right your story is supposed to be how YOU the AUTHOR imagines not how the reader wants it to be…unless its a you know story where that type of stuff doesn’t matter than okay but idk i say dont allow it sense it plays a role in the story they shouldnt get mad.

Thank you all for your opinion on this, it’s just that for the story to work (the way I have it planned) the skin colour for the main character and the Li can’t be changed for the story to make sense

If the skin tone of your story idea, plays a huge roll then do it. It’s your story, do whatever you like to do.
I don’t really mind about limited CC.
This is my opinion.

I don’t know…
Personally, it doesn’t bother me and I get that some authors may want the art scenes to match the main character’s skin tone but other than that I don’t really understand the point of it.
I mean we are in 2021, it’s pretty common to have someone that, because of his heritage, doesn’t look the way people of his nationality traditionally look like.
(A Mexican girl might have Korean parents or grandparents she would still be Mexican tho)
So I don’t think that the skin tone could in any way affect the plot but this is just my opinion

I’m okay with Limited CC in general as long as it has a purpose such as for plot purposes or because of limb overlays. For example, in my story, Killer Love, skin color isn’t customizable because of the use of limb overlays (making limb overlays is a lot of work lol) and my story does briefly address race.
In my story, one of the main characters is a white woman who was a serial killer and is now working as an assassin. I’m currently writing this chapter but ,in the chapter, the main character’s identity as a white woman is addressed and it discusses how the way society perceived white people and white women in particular can be weaponized and used for the main character’s advantage in her job as an assassin.

If it is an important part of your story then I would suggest allowing CC for skin tones in the similar hue. Like if the character is fair, then allow the user to CC the skin tones from shades 00-04 or if they are of darker skin tones then allow for CC in shades 05-10 in all the shades.(neutral,rose,gold,copper).
I personally dislike limited CC as it feels crippling to not be able to choose your own skin colour and play it as other skin tones, though when the authors provide variation in the shades then it’s nice to play because then we can customize the character to our liking.
You can also allow full CC then add a warning about changing the skin colour and that it has a big role in the plot so it’s advisable to not change the skin colour. Then the user will probably not change the colour and everything will be fine and even if they do then it’s their problem.
