What i’m struggling with
So today, I installed the app Autodesk SketchBook. I really want to use it for INK edits but I literally have NO idea what i’m doing. So, could you guys help me? One thing, why is my image green when I insert it? Is there a bucket tool? And I just need tips.

Thank you all, I hope this thread isn’t a flop

Lol sorryyy I don’t have that app.
But Can anyone tell me how to make good outlines?! It’s always a struggle for me!

I can’t really help you with Autodesk, as I’ve only used it briefly, but I struggle with clothing and hair. No matter what, I can’t get it to look decent, especially the clothing sometimes. The clothing just doesn’t look that authentic. I also need help with shading without airbrush cuz I’ve tried finding other ways but they all end up looking weird

When my son is at nursery in a few hours, I will send you some of the tutorials that I’ve been using, as well as any help I can offer using Sketchbook

I can’t guarantee I’ll be any help though as I’m still learning too

When it comes to clothing it very important with folds (do you even call it that??)! To figure out where the right folds should be you need to pay attention to the pose and the wind. Here safe two helpful pics, pm me if you need more help!

When it comes to brushes I personally prefer a hard edged brush with a high opacity, this way you get more of a watercolor feeling. I use photoshop so unless you use that too it’ll be hard to give you a recommendation for a specific brush, but I can also help you further in pm if you want!

Hope this helped a little at least heh

When it comes to outlines I think my best tip is just to not trace another picture, use a reference instead and free hand it. Idk I think this is how I learned to make outlines, just free handing, drawing things I liked and experimenting!!

If you use ibis paint x.Increase the stabilizer to the point you think your brush’s tip is sharp enough. My stabilizer is set on 7 and I use force fade on 40% both sides when creating line art.I prefer hard brush for line art (that is similar to an outline but we don’t trace stuff in it)

Hope this helps @Killerfrost

Free hand drawing is what I like too cause I think at some points tracing makes things worse. :joy: Someone please teach me how to trace accurately

Yeah same! I really prefer to free hand it!
Idk I feel like it’s harder to learn by tracing

This is based on the device version, not the desktop version.

  • Green Arrow - This is likely why you might be having a green background. If you click on it, you can choose any colour using the wheel or settings and it will change the colour of the canvas (or you can hide the layer to make the background transparent).
  • Blue Circle - This is a shortcut tool! When you hide all the bits around the sides (forgot to draw an arrow for this but you can hide everything by clicking the button at the top on the far right), this tool lets you change the opacity, size e.t.c of your brush and the colour you’re using whilst having the screen as just your canvas.
  • Pink Section - These are all your brushes. You can add and remove brushes from certain groups to create easy access to your favourites! (You can see that mine is a mixture of basic, legacy, smudge, texture).
  • Purple Arrow - Selecting this will bring up all of the brushes available. This is where you can modify the groups and also where you can modify the brushes. - After opening the library, choose setting, and then advanced - this will bring up pressure, stamp, nib and randomness. Not all brushes are able to be customised.
  • Orange Arrow - This is the selection tool. Magic wand e.t.c.
  • Yellow Arrow - This tool is to move everything on the layer or you’ve selected.
  • Blue Arrow - Bucket/Fill tool!
  • Red Arrow - This is the predictive stroke, it has somewhat the same properties as the stabiliser does on Ibis. There are levels 1 - 5 depending on how strong you want it.

I suggest just playing around with the brushes to see which ones you like to use
Here are lots of tutorials in case you’d like to take a look, they might help you decide which brushes are good for what use! (Bare in mind, they are based on the desktop version).

Sorry If none of this made sense and I just confused you more :see_no_evil: Honestly, just play around with it and you’ll soon learn and pick up on things, it gets a lot easier navigating all the brushes e.t.c.
