The first thing I learned is that the teachers aren’t as strict as others make them out to be. 80% of the time they’re pretty chill. I’d also say try to pay as much attention as you possibly can though.

I’m home schooled school but from what my sister told me things are chill and nothing like they portray in movies.

pay attention to the classes, even if they’re boring

dont feel you have to take AP classes/dual enrollment; sure they’ll help w/ credits but it’s not worth it if you dont think you’re ready (your work ethics will reflect that)

take notes, i take like 8 classes (the average is 7 i think) in HS and i used to not take notes so often during MS but usually, they don’t provide you a fill-in-the-blank worksheet

have fun :)), dont stress about high school being the best years of your life (ive heard that phrase so much times tho) it doesn’t have to be, just focus on not stressing yourself out and high school will be fine (its pretty chill anyway)

same here but i started it this september soo
i dunno what to say, our class was devided in two groups bc of corona and while first group was in school the other was online and so on

but on monday we’re going back to normal and i cant wait (too meet them irl not for school duhh)

anyways it is fun for now but its very hard for me bc my “course” is much harder than normal “courses” so i had A LOT to study but im sooo lazzzyyy so it isnt as easy as in middle school (duh)
and honestly i think i will be good friends with some of my classmates

while we were all online this past 2-3 months we were on calls nonstop (not zoom and all that shit) with eachother and they seem the type of people i like to hang with

High school
. Oh to be young again!

High school can be the best 4 years of your life or the worst 4 years of your life. Just be yourself, let loose, make mistakes, do your homework, and just live. Take courses that you normally wouldn’t take to try and figure out what you want to do as a career.

As for friends, pick friends that supports you, lift you up and help you along the way. Once high school ends, you will all go your separate ways.

Some teachers are really laid back and some can be strict. They are there to help you and they want to help you. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! I still talk to some of my high school teachers and actually have added them on facebook.

It’s honestly not as bad as they portray it in movies and TV shows. There will be lots of drama, rumors and whatever, just do your own thing and try not to get involved.

You’ll do great!

Honestly listen in class but enjoy your life too. Remember there is always time to play and goof around after you finish your work.

I’m not out of high school yet, but here are a few things worth knowing:

putting this in a dropdown box because it’s so long
  1. The friends you come in will likely not be the ones you come out with.

  2. Pay attention, respect your teachers, and take notes

  • I’m not saying that you do this, but it’s not funny to chastise your teachers and make their life a living hell. Just be respectful and listen to them, no matter how much you hate their class. You will need your teachers to write recommendations for you when you are applying to colleges.
  • Cornell notes are awful, don’t format your notes in this style! Just take “regular” notes and don’t worry about making them aesthetic. Writing the information down is more important than having them look cute.
  • Also, don’t write down everything that’s on the slide in your notebook. You won’t have time to get everything down and your wrist will be sore. It’s better to listen and ask questions than to write down every little detail about a subject. But if a teacher spends a long time talking about a key point, make sure to get that in your notes!
  1. Try to avoid dating your freshman year
  • This one is totally up to you, but I believe you should focus on getting a routine down and getting accustomed to the school before worrying about whether or not that person in your English class likes you or not. The relationship probably wouldn’t last anyways!
  1. It’s not going to be High School Musical
  • High school is nothing like the movies. You’re not going to be performing a choreographed routines in the cafeteria, you’re not going to be feuding with Sharpay Evans, and you’re not going to date Zac Efron. It’s just not going to happen. I wish :pensive:
  1. Join clubs and/or participate in sports!
  • I would definitely recommend joining color guard if you’re into dance and enjoy :sparkles:accidentally :sparkles: striking lightly tapping marching band members with six foot flags (and your school offers it). :smirk:
  1. Challenge yourself by taking at least one AP or honors class
  • AP human geography is a great (but monotonous) class that will set you up for future AP courses. However, don’t feel pressured to take lots of AP/honors classes if you don’t think you can handle them.
  1. Don’t peak in high school
  • I don’t care what anyone says, high school should not be the best years of your life.
  1. Have fun! (the most important one)
  • Don’t worry if you turned one assignment in late or if you bombed your algebra test. High school is only four years of your life, so try to make the most of it!

Hope this helped and good luck with high school! It’s going to suck sometimes, but you’re just going to have to live with it.
Yay!! :llama: :blob_sun:

    • Write your fricking assignments down. On anything. It doesn’t matter if it’s a notebook, journal or a todolist app. Write it down somewhere you can’t forget it. That’s the biggest mistake I made my first two quarters of highschool and my grades suffered because of it. Personally, I use Todoist (a to-do-list) app to put my assignments down. But the app my school and district uses also has a to-do-list feature, so I guess that’s convenient.

    • When you get home, unback your backpack immediately and start working on your assignments. If it helps, try to work ahead and you can always find answer keys online for stuff you don’t really understand. Try your best to ask questions and understand the material though, because cheating doesn’t help you when it comes to tests (or exams) and teachers can definitely tell when your cheating on homework compared to tests (trust me).

    • Find friend groups that you share a common interest with and NOT because they’re popular or whatever. Like genuinely enjoy their company because you’ll be spending lots of time around them (most likely) and it helps to be comfortable.

Okay,

  • DON’T CLOG THE HALLWAY. You will be either pushed or yelled at.

  • Focus on school. It actually matters in Highschool unlike Middle

  • Try to take your required electives in your first 2 or 3 years of highschool to get them out the way, I made that mistake and wasted the first 2 years taking classes i thought were going to be intresting but weren’t, now I have to cram all my required classes in to my last 2 years of highschool and can’t do anything i actually want to do

  • Don’t worry about popularity

  • Don’t date upperclassmen, especially seniors.

  • Bring a couple of dollars cause highschools usually have school stores that you can get snacks and some school supplies from (Really helpful when you forget a pencil and your teacher/s don’t give out theirs)

  • DO NOT change yourself to fit in. It can make you very unhappy, trust me.

  • Try to ask your teachers questions. I understand if your shy, so maybe wait till after class or email your teacher. My grades would probably be way better if I wasn’t so scared to ask questions

  • Don’t worry about bugging your teacher over grades and questions, cause at the end of the day it will help you.

I’ll add on when I think of other things

  • Take regular notes.

  • Do not disrespect teachers and speak where you’re needed to.

  • Do not skip any classes.

  • Be confident and don’t let your confidence level drop by anyone/anything.
