TV Game Show games!

Let’s do a series of TV Game Shows!

I’ll come up with a number of TV Game Shows that we can do and possibly, if people wish it, then we have even repeat shows and set up another round. At the end of each show/game, the winner will also receive a personalised award/acknowledgement for winning.

How to participate:

  1. Read all of this post.
  2. Don’t reply on this thread unless in a “show” and it is your turn.
  3. Be active every day!
  4. If we have to wait more than 1 to 2 days for you when you’re addressed, then you will be removed or replaced.
  5. Please only post on this thread if you’re in a game show and it’s your turn, no other chat, please!
  6. Also, don’t cheat. As it just ruins the fun and you end up not only spoiling it for everyone, as well as yourself. Cheating involves not only searching the internet for answers but talking with users on here too.

The Second Game Show is Mastermind! See it here.

The First Game Show: Decisions!

Alright, so here is your opportunity to participate in your favourite television game shows, and all without leaving the comfort of your home. Though which game show will we be playing? The decision is yours. I have many to choose from and will be doing the set and choosing, but which do you choose. The rules will be explained properly once one has been chosen. I will give you a day or maybe two before the poll is closed.

The games:

Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?

A group of contestants play a preliminary round called “Fastest Finger First”. All are given a question by the host and four answers which must be placed within a particular order. The contestant who not only answers correctly but in the fastest time, goes on to play the main game.
Once a contestant enters the main game, they are asked increasingly difficult general knowledge questions by the host. Each features four possible answers, in which the contestant must give the correct answer. Doing so wins them a certain amount of money, with tackling much tougher questions increasing their prize fund. During their game, the player has a set of lifelines that they may use only once to help them with a question.

Summary

50/50: Two answers removed.
Ask the audience: Goes to a poll on the thread and there will be a time limit.
Phone a friend: Calling upon one of the users in the game to tell you what they think the answer is.

While the first few questions are generally easy, subsequent ones after them will get gradually harder. If a contestant feels unsure about an answer and does not wish to play on, they can walk away with the money they have won.

There will be between one to three main games for the show on the thread.

Pointless

The object of the game is for contestants to provide answers that are not only correct but also as obscure as possible, with each game consisting of teams of two contestants. So there will be 8 people playing in teams of two, so four teams.

Those who are not playing on the show will be in a group PM with me. I will be asking them the questions first, which will mean that they will be deciding how many points are given out per answer.

These questions are then given to the contestants to individually give an answer. If the answer is correct, the team scores one point for each participant that gave it in the group PM; if no one in the PM gave that answer, the team scores zero points for providing a “pointless” answer. If the answer is incorrect, the team scores the maximum of 100 points. After a question is done, the highest-scoring team is eliminated.

The show starts with two elimination rounds, in which teams must achieve as low a score as possible. In the third round, the two surviving teams compete against each other (“the head-to-head”) to find the lowest-scoring answer in a series of questions. The winning team moves on to the final round.

The team that reaches the final round is awarded a trophy to keep. They must then supply three responses to a question with many correct answers (e.g., name films directed by a specified director or name a song by a specified singer). If any of the answers is pointless, they win the jackpot as it stands for that game; otherwise, the money rolls over to the next show.

Catchphrase

The first round, the contestants are all given catchphrases to answer. The first to buzz in with the correct answer gets the point. At the end of the round, the one with the fewest correct answers is eliminated.
The second round, the contestants play for money when buzzing in to answer the catchphrases. The one with the most money moves on to the final rough and the Catchphrase Pyramid.

Will allow as many as want to participate.

Mastermind

For the first round, each contestant, in turn, is given a set length of time, about one hour in this thread game, to answer questions on a specialised subject which they have chosen. The contestant scores one point for each correct answer and may pass as often as desired. If time runs out while a question is being read, the questioner will finish it and give the contestant a few seconds to answer.

During the second round, each contestant, in turn, answers a series of general knowledge questions. The rules from the first round apply, except that the time limit is extended (to an hour and a half in the thread game).

The winner is the contestant with the highest score after two rounds. Ties are broken in favour of the contestant with the fewest total passes.

Tipping Point

The machine consists of two shelves filled with flat circular counters; the upper shelf slowly extends and retracts, whilst the lower one is stationary. The rear face of the machine is divided into four “drop zones,” each of which contains a pegboard. Contestants answer questions to win counters, then choose a drop zone. The goal is to have the counters land flat on the upper shelf so that its retraction will cause them to push other counters over its front edge, leading them to push still others off the lower shelf and into a collection trough referred to as the “win zone.” Contestants win £50 for each counter that drops into the win zone during their turn.

The machine

image

Round one: The four contestants are each given three counters at the start of this round. A series of toss-up questions are asked, and the first contestant to buzz-in may answer. A correct response allows the contestant to either play one of their own counters or force an opponent to play one instead, based on their judgement of how likely the machine is to pay out on that turn. Once a contestant runs out of counters, they may not answer any more questions. A contestant who buzzes-in with an incorrect answer loses one counter, which is placed into a penalty pot.
Round two: Each contestant answers 30 seconds (or real-life half hour) of rapid-fire general knowledge questions and receives a counter for each correct answer, then uses these counters in an attempt to win more money.
Round three: The two remaining contestants are asked six questions alternately, three to each contestant. After hearing a question, the contestant in control may either answer or pass to the opponent. One counter is awarded for each correct answer.
Final round: One contestant left, who is trying to get a bonus counter out of the machine.

At the end of each round, the lowest-scoring contestant is eliminated from the game and forfeits all their money. In the event of a tie for low score, or if all contestants are tied, a sudden-death toss-up is used to break the tie. A correct buzz-in answer allows the contestant to advance, while a miss eliminates them.

House of Games

Four contestants play against each other in really random rounds. Five rounds are played each show, with the final round always being the same; “Answer Smash”. In most games, a point is awarded for a correct answer, but in “Answer Smash”, points are also deducted for incorrect answers.

At the end of each day/show, the scores are announced and the winner.
I will each do just one day/show OR if there are 16 users wanting to play, then I will do the full week/5 shows. (wink)

Blankety Blank

Four contestants and six panellists .
Two contestants compete. The object of the game is to match the answers of as many of the six panellists as possible on fill-in-the-blank statements.

The main game is played in two rounds. The contestant is given a choice of two statements labelled either “A” or “B”. The host then reads the statement. The six panellists will write their answers in a form or in a PM to me first. After they finish, the contestant is asked for their answer. The contestant earns one point for each panellist who wrote down the same answer (or reasonably similar as determined by me) up to a maximum of six points for matching everyone. The goal is to have each contestant have matched answers with the six panellists over the two rounds. Whoever does, or gets closest, goes to the final.

Which shall be the game of tournament two?

  • Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?
  • Pointless
  • Catchphrase
  • Mastermind
  • Tipping Point
  • House of Games
  • Blankety Blank

The First Game Show: POINTLESS

The first game show will be to find out who is the Pointless Champion team!
Pointless is explained here, but in simple terms, click on the arrow below this.

Pointless explained for the thread:

Objective: For contestants to provide answers that are correct AND obscure; ones that that the audience have not said,
Who: 8 contestants; 4 teams of 2 contestants.
Non-Contestants: I will need a BIG group in a group PM, to answer the questions first (anonymously), which will mean that they will be deciding how many points are given out per answer.

First two rounds: Questions are answered individually in the pair. If the answer is correct, the team scores one point for each anonymous participant that gave it too. 100 being the maximum. If no one has given that answer, the team scores zero points for providing a “pointless” answer. If the answer is incorrect, the team scores a maximum of 100 points. After a question is done, the highest-scoring team is eliminated.
The third round: The two surviving teams now work together to find the lowest-scoring answer in a series of questions. The team to get the lowest scoring answer in two questions, wins and moves on to the final round.

The final round: They choose a category. In that category, they get three questions in it. The team must then supply three responses to one or all of the questions with many correct answers (e.g: name films directed by a specified director or name a song by a specified singer). If any of the answers are pointless, they win the jackpot; otherwise, the “money” rolls over to the next show.

So, only 8 people can be a contestant, so if you want to be one then you MUST be active!!!
Do you want to be one? However, the most important is in the second poll, but it either one or the other!

  • Yes, I want to be one of the active 8 contestants.
  • Yeah, maybe, 'cause I also want to be part of the anonymous group PM audience!

The most important people, I need lots of people for the anonymous group PM audience!

This starts pretty immediately, as I need MANY people, who AREN’T contestants, to answer the questions before they get to. This will only about 2 to 5 minutes of your time, as I DON’T want you to look up answers and only answer in a set amount of answers. The questions aren’t too hard but you can skip them in this group without being penalised like the contestants will be. (wink) PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS ONE, GUYS! It’s only 2-5 minutes about once every 3-4 days.

Please sent this in a PM to people too, as I REALLY do need a lot of people in this group! (wink)

  • Yes, I’ll be in the important group.
  • Yeah, if it’s only 3-5 minutes.
  • YES, and I’ll PM some others now who might help you out too. (wink)
  • Maybe, add me and I might leave if it’s too much.

The First Game Show: POINTLESS

Hello, I’m Alexander Armstrong Caliope and welcome to Pointless, the show where the lowest scorers are the biggest winners. Let’s meet today’s players.

And couple number one. @Epiwriter.Alexandra, who you’ll see regularly in the RP and art community. Their partner is @itsgaby.p, who is reasonably new to the community.
Couple number two. This is @BlueInferno, a seasoned RPing newbie, and @Skyler2, a quoter of Dr Seuss.
Couple number three. Both regular RPers in the community, it’s @Dying_Dreams and @Summer41.
And, finally, couple number four. From American sides of the world, it’s @Luna_B_Vand.er and @Caticorn.

And these are today’s contestants. Thanks very much all of you. A very warm welcome to Pointless. We’ll get to chat with each of you throughout the show as it goes along. Anyway, let’s get on with our show, shall we?
OK, right, if everyone’s ready, let’s play Pointless. So, remember this, the pair with the highest score at the end of each round will be eliminated, so make sure you are not that pair. Best of luck to all four pairs.

Our first category this afternoon is… Johnny Depp.

Can you decide in your pairs whose going to go first, who’s going to go second? Whoever’s going first, please step up to the podium. Decide in our group PM, only one person in the pair has to make the decision.

(Everyone shuffled around, and pairs switched over so the one who was going first stood in front of the podium while the other stood behind their left shoulder.)

OK, and the question concerns…

Films that Johnny Depp has been credited in.

We gave 100 people 100 seconds to name as many films that Johnny Depp has been credited in. Now, @Epiwriter.Alexandra, how are you doing and what film would you like to go for? What film do you know Johnny Depp was credited in and can you name one with a low-scoring answer?

Please don’t cheat, guys, that doesn’t make the game enjoyable, nor does it make your victory worth it if you do. So please only use what’s in your head, and don’t search or ask anyone for the answer.

AND DON’T discuss it with the person in your pairing!

I suggest watching this thread, so you can see the answers that the others say.

@itsgaby.p, @BlueInferno, @Skyler2, @Dying_Dreams, @Summer41, @Luna_B_Vand.er, @Caticorn.

21 Jump Street?

21 Jump Street, says Epiwriter.Alexandra.
Let’s see if that’s right, let’s see how many of our 100 people said 21 Jump Street.

:x:

21 Jump Street, I’m afraid, is an incorrect answer. Johnny Depp was actually uncredited for this film. Probably because it was only a cameo. Unfortunately, that scores you 100 points and means the two of you are our high scorers. Though it’s only the beginning and you still have a chance.

Next up, @BlueInferno, how are you doing? What film do you have in mind for this question? Hopefully a right answer.

Scores

Alexandra/Gabrielle - 100 points
Blue/Skyler - ? points
Dreams/Summer - ? points
Luna/Caticorn - ? points

The curse of the Black Pearl

The Curse of the Black Pearl. Is that one of the films he’s credited for?
Let’s see if that’s right, let’s see how many of our 100 people said The curse of the Black Pearl.

. :heavy_check_mark:
28

Only 28 people of our 100 said The Curse of the Black Pearl. So that has scored you 28 points, meaning the two of you are currently leading. However, we did give you the The Curse of the Black Pearl, the full name of the film is Pirates of the Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Moving along to our third couple, I can see that @Dying_Dreams is going first. What film is it that you are thinking of? Is it one that could possibly score lower than 28 points?

Scores

Alexandra/Gabrielle - 100 points
Blue/Skyler - 28 points
Dreams/Summer - ? points
Luna/Caticorn - ? points

Fantastic Beasts : The crimes of Grindelwald?

Is that one of Johnny Depp’s?
Let’s see if that’s right, let’s see how many of our 100 people said Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.

. :heavy_check_mark:
12

Only 12 people of our 100 said Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. So that has scored you 12 points, so now the two of you are in the lead.

And finally our fourth couple, how are you doing, @Caticorn? And what film are you thinking of?

Scores

Alexandra/Gabrielle - 100 points
Blue/Skyler - 28 points
Dreams/Summer - 12 points
Luna/Caticorn - ? points

Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass

Through the Looking Glass, you say.
Let’s see if you’re right, was Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass one of his films and how many of our 100 people said it?

. :heavy_check_mark:
20

20 people of our 100 said Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass. So after four answers, you are our second-lowest team on 20 points.

Time for the other players to step up to the podium, so switch now.

(The players switch places)

So, down the opposite way this time, starting with @Luna_B_Vand.er. Welcome, how are you doing? You are both on 20 points and for you both to be safe for this round, you need to score less than 79 points. So, what film do you know that Johnny Depp was credited in?

Scores

Alexandra/Gabrielle - 100 points
Blue/Skyler - 28 points
Dreams/Summer - 12 points
Luna/Caticorn - 20 points

Charlie and the chocolate factory

That sounds plausible, so let’s see how many of our 100 people said Charlie and the chocolate factory.

. :heavy_check_mark:
37

37 people of our 100 said Charlie and the chocolate factory. That makes your score now at 57 points and means you two are definitely through to the next round.

Moving along to @Summer41, how are you feeling? Your red line is at 88 points, get under that and you two will also be processing to the next round.
What Johnny Depp film are you thinking of?

Scores

Alexandra/Gabrielle - 100 points
Blue/Skyler - 28 points
Dreams/Summer - 12 points
Luna/Caticorn - 57 points

Don’t worry, @itsgaby.p, you haven’t lost. Two more have to have a turn and they could get wrong answer (100 points), then all you’d need is a pointless answer (0 points).

I am feeling good.

I think of Shining in the Stars

Okay, Summer, that’s good.
I’m not sure I’ve heard of that film, so it must be a really good answer if it’s correct, possibly pointless. So let’s see how many of our 100 people said Shining in the Stars, is that a correct answer?

. :x:

Shining in the Stars is not a correct answer. In fact, it’s not a film at all. Perhaps you were either thinking of The Shining or The Fault in Our Stars. With that, your score is plus 100 points, making it now at 112 points and the highest-scoring team so far.

So, @Skyler2, that must make you feel a little more relieved. As your red line is now at 84 points, so if you can get under that, then you two will also be progressing to the next round. Anyway, what is the film you are going for?

Scores

Alexandra/Gabrielle - 100 points
Blue/Skyler - 28 points
Dreams/Summer - 112 points
Luna/Caticorn - 57 points
