Types For Writing Characters Differently From Character-To-Character

Any suggestions?

Honestly, the best advice I can give it so base each character upon people you either know intimately or are acquaintances with. I usually match the personalities and development of my characters based upon people I know, people who have come and gone in my life, and people I’ve sat next to in lecture. Everyone you come across has a distinct personality and a complex life. You just have to look out for it!

Make music playlists for your characters or find characters in TV shows/other media that are similar to your character!

The music one I use a lot, it gives me a general vibe of the character and helps me get ideas for scenes.

Give them different personalities, different appearances, different ethnicities, different clothing styles, different experiences, different conditions, different morals, different humor, different animations (e.g a shy character will do more shy animations than a confident character would and they might even speak less too).

  • All alcohol is fine
  • Sex whenever is okay
  • Only protected sex is okay
  • Only abstinence is okay
  • (controversial) Abortion is okay/not okay
  • White lies are okay, other lies are not
  • All lies are not okay/are okay
  • Respectable work for money is fine, other work isn’t e.g prostitution, selling drugs, killing etc.
  • Any work for money is fine
There’s a lot more examples but I think you get the picture. You can apply so many different morals and views on each character.
