Unpopular opinion: I actually like Mafia stories 🤭

I mean, me personally, I’m not a fan. But if someone wants to read or write them, then let them. Movies also use many bad things that have happened to people and its fine. So if you like them or like writing them then its fine<3

Given the ubiquity of mafia stories on the app, I don’t think this is an unpopular opinion lol.

But guys, think about it, @Misslondon21 understands how unrealistic mafia stories so it shouldn’t be a problem. There are people who are obsess with mafia leader and want to literally marry one. That is an issue because they don’t understand the realistic side of mafias. Episode is a fictional story app that allows people to make stories how they like it. As long as the author notifies their reader that this is not true, we shouldn’t have a problem.

It’s clearly a popular category for a reason. For me, its just having the reader understand that it’s highly romanticized fiction. I think the readers are smarter than most people give them credit.

This coming from a first generation American. Both of my parents were born in Sicily and my moms maiden name is Gambino. I grew up with all the stereotypical questions and discrimination you could imagine and more.

I don’t care whether she knows it’s unrealistic or not, I care that people go through all these lengths to defend these kinds of stories. Whether you realize it or not doesn’t take away from the fact that the mafia killed, threatened, and harassed countless people, and you still choose to read it, write it, or defend it (in a glorifying way). Just my opinion :))

don’t forget they raped innocent people too

Exactly, but let’s forget all that because it’s more important that people get to read mafia stories. :heart_eyes_cat: :heartbeat:

yeah, forget the fact that they murder children as young as 3 just for being tied to a family :scream: :scream:

While reading these stories it’s important to remember that this is not how mafia looks in real life at all.

This isn’t the point, we’re saying that this representation of mafia is COMPLETELY WRONG and minds are easy to manipulate at like 13 years old.

That too, of course. Movies like 365 days are a great example. When I watched that movie I felt super uncomfortable yet I saw 14 y/o fangirling about it on Instagram😳 they basically normalized abuse and toxic relationship. He almost raped her during the movie more times than I can count. It’s upsetting to think people see it as romantic. Like this is how you want to be treated?

Yes I do understand this. At my age, I understand that’s it’s the wrong representation and obviously the mafia is terrible and completely awful. But reading stories about two people falling in love is entertaining to me. Idk it’s just an opinion

but theres so many better romance stories out there … which DONT romanticise abuse, r*pe, murder and trauma …

I personally love mafia stories and settings, however, i dislike most of the mafia stories on the app. I, myself, am writing a mafia story and so far I’ve really gone out of my way to emphasize that the LI’s organisation doesn’t dabble in the more disgusting crimes. However, one of the reasons I chose to write about criminals is to show the fall of the MC, who comes from a rich family but succumbs to this lifestyle. And the end product is meant to further show how wrong these relations are, and how dangerous this world is. To portray a toxic relationship that is, throughout the story, identified as such, and therefore fixed by the end. Because toxic relationships exist all around us, and many of us have experienced them. That’s normal in today’s world. What’s not normal, though, is how many people do not recognize abusive relationships. My story aims to show a love story that feels passionate, but is in reality toxic. It is supposed to build the MC’s character and help her find her strength to walk out and seek help.

What I hate is that I know there are many readers who will not give my story a chance because of all the prejudice against mafia stories. I get it, criminals should not be sexualised. We should not portray them in an alluring light, because of all the younger readers. However, I have read sooo many messed up stories and books from a very young age, and I can assure you, I have never wanted to pursue a relationship or a lifestyle similar to the ones I read about. It’s just food for thought basically. We have to remember that children (aged 13 and above) are not as impressionable as everyone make them out to be, and most of them are capable of distinguishing between fiction and real life, and if they cannot distinguish between both, then it’s not the author’s fault. Surely, if mafia stories and their representation of criminals was so dangerous and wrong, they would be banned from a PG13 app.

It’s completely different if you just don’t like to read mafia stories as a genre. Like I despise werewolf stories because they hit too close to a certain fetish and I just cringe :woman_shrugging:t3:

Yes this movie was terrible. But there’s also many Mafia stories that don’t romanticise those things and if they did, I wouldn’t read them!
