[UPDATE] Forums is closing down, date has been extended

I really hope it’s an updated/new and improved version of the old mobile creator bc them doing away with cinematic would be beyond ridiculous. It’s a huge part of what makes Episode EPISODE. :sob:

I tried Dorian, you have to make your own art or you can use the free Arcana characters. Ive never been paid for it so I dont know.

Another server comment:

Once it went public, within a DAY, disrespectful people joined and were nasty to people literally just trying to either say hi or help answer questions when the mods weren’t around yet. There are still users being mean, also.

I joined Forums back in April (been visiting for years, just never signed up) and not once have I encountered any rude people, nor general disrespect. I know I haven’t been a member long, but it says a lot when it took just ONE day to see trolls in the server and never any here.

Also, since I’m a menace. I made a meme:

I joined Discord years ago for a different writing app, but I didn’t like it so I never used it after joining. Now, I feel forced to use it. IMO it has a completely different vibe to the forums, it just feels like, to me anyway, a bunch of high school chats where it’s “cool” to berate others.

Again, just my opinion, but so far it seems a lot more chat focused that isn’t necessarily episode-related and less help, idea, community resource focused (despite the community links tabs, but I haven’t seen as much activity on those as I thought I would have).

Also, there is definitely more of a fear factor on there with regards to what you want to say and express.

I feel like this meme format was made to represent this company…

Even though I was one of the people who had the chance to explore the Epi Discord server, I didn’t expect them to close the forums so abruptly! :sob::sob::sob:

I’m really not a fan of this change. Discord is confusing, and I much prefer the forums.

Yes! :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

I don’t think they’d do that. It is their competitive advantage, looking at the market in general, so that’d be dumb. but who knows at this point…
It could be about making a story on an Ipad/phone again. Not in the way it was, because that was very limited compared to the portal. But that’s what I’m hoping for.

Just in the updates notes for the latest update. In the app store :sparkling_heart:

After using it for a little and getting the hang of it, I don’t think discord is too bad but I’ll probably avoid the main community chat and just stick to other categories like directing help you might find me lurking there lol :eyes:

However, I do firmly believe getting rid of the forums is very sad since like many people have been saying, there’s years worth of helpful content which had aided so many creators! And sadly, not everything might get saved since there is so much content

Honestly, the forums were (and still are, atm) definitely a place you could (and can) stalk for all your how to guides, backgrounds and overlays :joy: it will be deeply missed once it closes :blob_hearts:

I totally agree with you. Their cinematic format is the only thing they have going for them at this point (that and their IP protections). But then, they’ve been doing some really stupid things over the last year or two designed to boost short term profits while hurting long term solvency. So at this point, I put no stupid decision beyond them.

Maybe we could save some important parts of the forums on the waybackmachine? That way if it does get deleted we’d still have access to some parts of it.

To me, it’s not about whether discord is bad or not. I don’t think it’s terrible either- I quite like it for interactivity, actually. The issue, for me, is that it isn’t a better alternative to forums and not a suitable replacement. It isn’t improving upon anything nor is it a new and innovative way to get directing help. Maybe it’s a good way for the community to interact, sure, but after asking the mods direct questions about its capabilities, I can see that it is very much inferior in the way of guides and threads. I like the discord as an additional method of community connectivity- not as the primary platform to replace forums.

I wish we could have both :face_holding_back_tears: I agree, discord could never replace the forums. The forums also hold a special place to me because of how many memories I’ve made on here :sob:
