Update to Story Ranking and Trending Section Calculations

Yes, we do know. Authors who have payments open are able to see exactly how many reads they are getting paid for. I triple updated my story on Friday and have been at 700 in romance since (my story usually goes up to top 20 in romance when updated and rests between 40-60). The number of reads I have received has been 1/2 of what I usually get after a SINGLE update. I think you should stop saying “we don’t know if this is going to be negative” when those of us who do know are telling you that it IS negative. I believe this is a glitch right now, but due to how infrequently they are updating, we are now stuck for 24 hours, I have even moved one space 24 hours later. This is actually quite devastating for us and we have every right to withhold our content until we feel it is safe to post it.

But maybe it’s because not enough people read your stories so get to that ranking, maybe other stories got more reads than you do that’s the reason you didn’t the ranking you usually get, I’m sure your not the only author who has updated,

Sarah… did you read what I wrote?! You have no idea how many reads I got, I received more reads in the last 24 hours than some stories trending top 10 in romance have got ENTIRELY. This is a glitch that is not clearing and it is damaging to authors.

So it’s possible that what you are ranking is what you’d be ranking if the update didn’t happen

No… it isn’t?!? My story hasn’t been out of the top 100 trending since October. It is not possible to have slipped from 60 (when I didn’t publish for over a week due to waiting for approvals) to 700 after triple updating. You very clearly do not understand how this works.

You just said yourself that you received 1/2 of reads you normally get, that’s why your ranking is what is, because not as people have read your story

I’m I wrong? Is that not how ranking works? I thought your ranking is based of your reads?

It is half of what I get after an update. Without updating I am 60 in romance. That is still a boost. Please re read what I wrote as you don’t understand it.

I just want to ask, if you are getting as many reads in a 24 hour period then the stories in the top 10 have gotten in general how exactly is it going to really affect your payments by the time they release them, I mean doesn’t Episode actually verify the accuracy of reads? is it possible that maybe there is a glitch in the actual count of your reads and not in the ranking?

Because authors rely on publishing to boost them up the trending section to be more visible and find new readers. I have just essentially wasted the momentum from 3 chapters and I have lost the opportunity of finding new readers.

But there is still the possibility when it update tomorrow for you to jump to your regular spot? I mean the update only happening once a day, I would think would throw off the actual “rank” of your story, for instance I have a story that is ranking at 605 right now with a trending user rank of 1763, in the time I have been finishing up my chapter (so about 10 minutes) it has gotten 15 reads, so even though it shows the rank now, isn’t it possible it will move ranking anyways, even if we are not aware of it?

I’m going to get a lot of hate for this but, I don’t feel bad for authors who have unlocked the payment section because guess what, some authors haven’t and are working hard to get it, so if this update gives them a chance to get noticed and get them to unlocking that payment, so be it.

Again if you have enough reads to get that payment section then you already have a following

I agree with you, there are a few people on this thread that seem to act entitled, its a little disconcerting.

It’s true, they act like the deserve to be a certain ranking, why? I’m not sure? They aren’t special

How exactly is it affecting small authors, if I may ask?

So only authors who receive money for stories or have high rankings that lost it due to an update are allowed to comment? that’s pretty messed up thought process, its a community for a reason…
Wow I can’t even right now.

If I remember correctly, the first 48 hours will be “calculating” for a newly publishes story, so I think that would hurt? But overall, you get calculated by 24 hour of reads so you might have a higher rank as a newly published author

Why do you write? Writing for any kind of number as your initial thought process and motivation is not ok. Writing should be a hobby first, always. Especially a game app like Episode? unless you’re officially working in contract with them.

It is not, but it’s what’s happening mainly on Instagram.
