I just wanted the communities opinion on creating character strength and weaknesses. What are some realistic and relatable weaknesses and strengths that characters can have? Not just “sassy or that best friend who’s boy/girl addicted and loves to shop” I mean real character strengths and flaws.

Maybe a popular figure having trust issues?
Hmmm idk. Good question.
My character has trust issues and a bit of anxiety
Think about your friends! Your friends are relatable and you love them, but they obviously have a few flaws that make them real.
If I were to use some examples from my life, I could say “I love friend x, but she can’t put herself in someone else’s shoes” or “I love friend y, but he can be too judgmental.”

Things I see that can relate to are trust issues insomnia over thinking and being way too forgiving
One of my characters has recently lost a sibling to suicide, and he’s mad at her, he abuses drugs, he’s mad at his family for “supporting” his sister.
I tend to give my characters mental or physical illnesses, almost as a projection.
So, a lot of my characters have characteristics of myself. It helps me humanize them, and make them more realistic.
Me in a nutshell.

One of my characters deal with family trauma as well, she was emotionally and mentally abused by her mother and partially by her older sister and therefore now she doesn’t want anything to do with either of them but on the older sisters POV it’s the mother that was manipulating her to do those things towards her sister if that makes since.
OH.
So, the mother planted in the older sister’s head that the younger one was a little demon spawn, and what they were doing was OK?
i know that you didn’t reply to me but that is a great idea! Many people have been and are going through it, it’s sad that so many relate to it 
Yes like the mother kept telling the older sister, if you do better at this then she will, if you do this and say this it will make her better or work harder etc.
Yes it’s honestly sad that people need to go through these kind of abuses, I feel like some pop el think because it’s not sexual or physical it’s not really abuse and that’s not true, mental and emotional abuse exist but it’s not shown as much as the others
Sounds like me irl. 
My mc strength is she’s confident and determined to get what she’s wants and nobody going to get in way, tough, strong, open minded, has a backbone and doesn’t give up on her goals very ambitious to her dreams.
She’s doesn’t independent on others is afraid of love and doesn’t like being told what do, very stubborn, smart. She’s cares about her friends and always puts herself first.
Weaknesses- she’s gets disappointed easily when her dreams don’t come true.
Takes it out of others sometimes
Over-thinking, she’s afraid of love.
She’s believes it but doesn’t want it to happen to her.
she’s confident but not in a arrogant way
The mc’s love interest
He is sensitive, awkward, doesn’t stand up for himself, he let’s people walk all over him,
He’s introvert and very reserved doesn’t like to be around a lot of people.
Only have a few friends.
Sound like some well rounded characters

Strengths: observant, blunt, realistic, smart, sympathetic, well-intentioned, agreeable
Weaknesses: judgmental, insensitive at times, mysterious/suspicious, indecisive
Another Male
Strengths: humorous, optimistic, supportive, light-hearted, perseverant
Weaknesses: clueless, overlooked, never taken seriously, refuses to slow down
Another, Another Male
Strengths: humorous, light-hearted, kind, talkative, friendly, well-liked, popular
Weaknesses: too detail-oriented, misses big picture, sloppy, impractical, can be self-righteous
Female MC
Strengths: charismatic, empathetic, intellectual, humble, self-aware, loyal to a fault
Weaknesses: anxious, lazy, procrastinator, insecure, secretive, paranoid, stubourn, emotional
Another Female MC
Strengths: blunt, logical, doesn’t waste time, organized, altruistic, even-tempered
Weaknesses: judgmental, overworks, impulsive, perfectionist, work over people attitude
