What do you think? (Art version)

Hi!
As I’m sick and like to torture myself and because of
@kaiden_doestuff
@Vampira
@Amaterasu
and @Cheyara_Skadi tips on this thread,
I spent the whole evening starting to learning the correct proportions and use all tips they gave me!
So I just want to know - am I going in the correct direction? :thinking:

Be as harsh as you want, cause I. NEED. TO. IMPROVE. :wink:

And I can even share the process video, if you don’t believe I drew it.

And please share any tips you have regarding drawing the face shape and hands! I’m struggling with these 2.

Definitely a step in the right direction!

The hand on the left is a bit boney if that makes sense. They also seem fairly large compared to her face - I’m pretty sure your face is about the same as your habd open (I THINK LOL).

Then the eyes are kinda big BUT they are kinda cute. That definitely looks much better and I can still see your style poking through so that’s good! Keep it up!

Okay, so smaller hands or bigger face to match the hands.
And a biiit smaller eyes. :sweat_smile:
Got it!

P. S. I don’t know why they always turn out big :joy:

It is absolutely a step in the right direction. Great work.
Again, I would say the eyes are a little big and wide, but not as much as before. If you look at the reference, her eyes are downcast. There is a lot of her eyelids visible. In yours they are more open and with less eyelid visibility. The hands need a little more work, I have something that I saw a while ago which has helped me with hands since, I shall try and track it down and Insta it over to you!

Also, your lines are a little clumsy from the brush you are using. I think they would benefit from a tapered edge and perhaps a bit more stability.

I guess this is where your tip about eye expressions comes into the picture :thinking:

It’s an inking brush but I swear I tried to find the smoothest one. Guess I will have to get a couple that are meant for outlines.

Maybe this is just because there is no color yet, but I find the eyes creepy. They stare dead into your soul and don’t seem to have much … depth? I also noticed a lack of tear ducts and lower eyelashes. Maybe making the pupils a bit larger would help as well.

Progress is def visible. When I started drawing I started to draw some arts separately. For example I would suggest u to draw some hand poses without faces. It def helps when you know how some parts should look like then it helps with overall picture :heart:

I’ve been using this to play with eye expressions on procreate.:.

There are lots of them with different expressions that you could try on pinterest💗

First of all, you chose a very complicated reference to start with
There is a very difficult light scheme here🤔
You need to choose studio photos where the light falls directly on the character
Secondly, don’t be afraid to make more control points, the size and height of the eye, the level of the upper lip, the lower lip, the width of the face
Plus, I recommend drawing on the Procreate grid so you can see by the cells how the reference fits and what shape you need to repeat
It’s easier to see the body parts as simple geometric shapes, and then it’s easier to draw the body
For a sketch, choose a brush with a standard brush for sketches, and to make your lines smoother, you should customize it a little for yourself (see screenshots)

I would also suggest looking at Samdoesart tutorials. He makes sketches very simple, just some basic shapes. Helped me a lot

I really like this style of art! It reminds me of something I would see drawn in a poem book- a little more stylistic than the usual kind of art you see used for episode covers. It has this sense of sketchiness to the details if that makes sense. I think what makes it look more stylistic than other episode covers is the large eyes. Personally, I like it because it looks unique and actually intentional, at least in line art/sketch form but I don’t know if It will look as intentional when colored in and shaded. So, if you are going for a more proportionate style, I would recommend making the eyes smaller as others have suggested. Keep it up! You have so much potential that I can see from this one piece AND the fact that you are so open to critique is only going to help you improve even more.

Oh yes, the eyelashes. I’m not really good with them, but I’ll try to add them! Thank you!
And I’m already fixing the eyes :sweat_smile:

Ohh, thank you!
But you can ask for tips from artists and watch a ton of videos and move one from stickmen :hugs:
You just have to try cause you never know - it may be the best decision you have made!🩶🩶

Oki, got it!🩶🩶🩶
I think I will have to do it like that especially for eues and hands!

Honestly, I didn’t really think about the lightning. I just tried to find a bust-up pose :sweat_smile:

And yeah, I understood about more lines when I was resizing things🥲 I will definitely use more of them with the next art.

I have tried using the grid, but I don’t really see hot it is helpful, if you don’t need to draw symmetry.

Thank you for screenshots! I will adjust mine brushes, or just search for some more!

And your pose looks so much better! Have always loved your style! 🩶🩶😍

Ohhhh, thank you so much!🩶🩶🩶🥺
And I usually replicate the outline with the correct shades, so it doesn’t “disappear”.
And my main goal is semi-realism, so I guess proportions are kinda important. And I’m making these eyes smaller :joy:

And thank you! (Again)
I just understood that if criticism is based on facts, I can take it. If it’s just to be rude or make yourself feel better, I ignore it.

Sorry for all the late replies!
I’m sick with 39.4 temperature (in celsius) so bed is my best friend now and I can’t even hold anything: (
