I’ve seen multiple people say this about their sexuality, and I don’t understand what they mean. What does non-binary mean? I hope I spelled it right

this reminds me of biology.
in the sense of sexuality i dont get it. Non meaning like not and binary meaning something of two things/part…so idk not a guy not a girl…who really knows lol

Non-binary is a new made up thing where people identify as a gender that isn’t male or female. They’re not one or the other, or they “don’t have a gender” though they sometimes present to be kinda feminine and sometimes present themselves more masculine, but they aren’t actually male or female, despite their biology. It isn’t based in science or anything, just a new thing people started to feel better in their own skin, which is honestly not a big deal.
Whatever makes you happy, fam, ya know? Some people say it is harmful to just…be indifferent or even slightly supportive of people identifying as non binary because it is feeding a delusion or whatever. But I don’t think that non-binary people hurt anybody. So long as they aren’t trying to compel speech, there’s no problem.
They usually prefer the “they/them” pronouns when being referred to. ^^

Hmmmm… that’s interesting. It’s kind of hard not to classify yourself as a gender based on what body parts you have.

Right, that’s why it isn’t science-based. Its all about the mind, not about the hard science. Doctors and biologists will all say you are either male or female. But sometimes, people don’t like those boxes and feel more comfortable in their mind as something else, so they identify differently from their actual gender. ^^
Gender and sex are technically different, but gender is determined by sex. When you feel differently in your mind, you don’t always feel 100% like you are your gender ^^’

Nonbinary means that the person doesn’t identify as a woman or man. So they may feel genderless, or they may feel like some combination of man and woman. It has nothing to do with biology; it’s just how they mentally perceive themselves.

Just a little note - sex is how one is biologically identified whereas gender (or in this case) is how one identifies themselves due to culture and/or societal influence, etc.

Sex and gender can be used interchangeably, but they can also be different. For example, a person may be biologically female, but identify as non-binary. Most non-binary people prefer to be referred to as they/them.
