I’m working on my first story. Planned everything out and I’m satisfied with my idea. But now I’m making the story and it seems… boring. As in nothing special that will keep the reader tapping other than the main plot. Conversation after conversation like who wants to read that?!? How can I make my story enjoyable to read and make it interesting?
Add some fun animations or just random days out. Maybe some romantic scenes, sad ones or just extra things such as girls day out or pool parties? Maybe have one of the non main characters have a storyline too? I dont know <3
Literally just cut out some dialogue, when i was writing my first story it started out really boring due to the endless amounts of unneeded dialogue. After that add some emotion and something that causes tension. idk
Thank you! You’re right, especially the part about leaving out unnecessary scenes!
Ohh yeah I just made my first chapter and I looked at it like ??? HDHDHDHD
Start with the action! Don’t wait too long to get into your plot; the characters and story can be developed as you go along. But whatever the main plot is–as mentioned in the description–bring that in as soon as you can. If the plot itself isn’t turning out to be interesting, throw in something unexpected and plenty of humor to go along with it. I’m sure it’ll turn out just fine! Good luck
Thank you so much!! I got really insecure and got worried. I’m going to think about what you said <3
The rule is: kill your darlings! Whenever there’s some unneeded dialogue that will not mean anything to the storyline and will just bore your readers - cut it off! For example, if some dialogues are repeating or something like this, just delete it!
Thank you! This helps me to push myself to get better at writing <3
I’m glad to hear that

People have said it already but side plots.
I’ve found my writing can feel a little… linear if every scene, every conversation very clearly is just another stepping stone I’ve hit along the path that is my main plot. At the same time, as people have also said, you obviously don’t want to include scenes that don’t drive the story forward or don’t add anything. So, I’ve found side plots to be a way around this. They can either contribute/link to your main plot, for example, your MC developing a stronger relationship with their estranged father which in turn, makes them more self-aware, humble, confident, whatever it is that’s going to help them achieve their plot-aligned goals. OR side plots can add humour, contrast (in mood or genre to an extent) or alternative viewpoints (such as the story villain’s).
Hope this is helpful or at the very least coherent!!
Xx
Thank you so much for telling me this! I think I’m going to search this comment way more in the future than I like to admit… <3
Ahaha it’s just my opinion but I’m so glad you found it helpful!
It may seem boring to you because you wrote it, and you know what’s gonna happen next. But to readers it may be interesting, the author and the reader see the story differently the author may think their story is bad or boring because well, they wrote it. The reader may be interested in it, but if you really insist. Add interesting scenes, like going shopping, dramatic, happy, anything you can think of.
Yeah I was thinking about that too🤔
I think I will know how my story is when I ask people to review it haha
so true!! sometimes when i’m writing a story i just can’t stop thinking about how boring it is. so i take a break from writing (and forget about it hehe) and then three months later i discover it and read it and i’m just like “giirl, this slaps :D”!
I’m so glad to hear that you saw how good you are! Hope you’re continuing your journey with doing the thing you love the most <3
Maybe you can make your stories more interactive ?? For example add mini games or add more choices as simple as choosing type of food or outfits. For me, i would like to see more actions going on than narration. Good luck on your first story <3
Thank you! I’m going to do that for sure <3
Congrats on your first comment! Hhahah.
