Okay so the thing is I am publishing my first ever episode story soon. It’s a romcom well, more of a comedy with a lot Indian chaos in it. But me and my co-author we got stuck on one thing, when we were thinking about the cover art, both of us thought it would be a good idea for the cover to have all the important characters in it… and we thought it’s a good idea to have those 5 characters in it with the added chaos (which our story is apparently all about). But then we were dicey about whether people as an audience would like to click on such a cover. Let’s be honest covers are everything. So I needed to know an opinion of you guys… If you were to click on a romcom (keyword com) which cover would appeal to you the most… a romantic playful cover with just the mc and the li OR a chaotic cover with 5 people (including mc and li) which shows a little bit of something about the story and the characters…
Honestly, I wouldn’t mind either as long as the title is distinct and readable. I do think there’s the potential for the cover with fewer characters to be more successful though because it’s less crowded and more focused on the most prominent characters of the story and gives the idea that the story will take place mainly surrounding those two as well as the fact that there is a huge amount of people that love a romantic aspect between characters and that’s a lot more clearly communicated through two characters on a cover than a chaotic group.
Multiple characters have the potential to become overcrowded and messy if it isn’t laid out well, but if they’re very important, then I think it would absolutely make sense to have them on the cover. It could also be funnier? Depends on what you plan to have them doing.
But! You can could also have one concept as the small cover and the other as the large?
For me, it actually depends on the quality of the cover. if the cover quality is good enough I would definitely go for it.
