it’s about a girl who finds a strange necklace in a thrift shop and after she puts it on strange things happen to her.
(Im still figuring out the plot)

lol. I have story about found strange necklace too.:joy::joy:

But to the introduction…

Actualy readers do not like introductions via narrators. So if possible best thing is start simply with a scene - like if it would be a film.

If its possible because of the story pacing its great if it can be a scene that shows the moment of start of her life change - she finding the necklace, or shortly before… showing bit of her normal daily life and than let her find the necklace.

Also many authors start with dramatic scene from future to create suspension and then they go “back” to how everything started.

Like Farah said begin it with a scene like in movies. Avoid using narrations to say that this is blah blah blah and she is the character you will be playing as blah blah blah. Choose a scene which will make the readers want to know more about the story. If you have customization you can first show a scene then go to the customization.

The main ways I’ve been taught and have seen people do this is by pulling on the reader’s emotions or adrenaline. There are different benefits to both. (Bolded text and examples are the most important if this passage is too long.)

Pulling on a reader’s emotions: This immediately relates the reader to or causes them to
sympathize for the character. This includes a glimpse of a moment in the character’s life where they are stuck in an extremely emotional, life-altering situation (often extremely terrible or dangerous). This means that it either changes how they perceive the world, how they interact with it, changes their goals, changes their motives, changes their personality, etc. It typically utilizes emotions such as pain, love, hate, betrayal, remorse, guilt, reminiscence, or sorrow.

Examples:

  • Showing a scene of a character or characters’ past(s). This usually creates is the basis or a major influence for their journey.
  • Showing a scene in the future. This shows a scene where the character’s life completely changes or falls apart, sparking a curiosity in the reader to find out what lead to this point.
  • Showing a scene of a character or characters reacting before or after a moment has already occurred. (Like someone attending the funeral for someone’s death or anticipating the acceptance, or rejection, letter from the college of their dreams.)

Pulling on a reader’s adrenaline: This causes the reader to immediately engage in the plotline of the story. The story starts off in the middle of the action, emphasizing emotions like desperation or anticipation as the character faces a complication (possibly life-changing). It utilizes suspense, tension, anticipation, and anything that would typically cause an "adrenaline rush."

Examples: (I refer to the situations as life-changing, but they are not always this extreme)

  • The character or characters are facing a life-or-death situation. This makes the reader wonder what may happen.
  • The character or characters are approaching something that could be life-threatening. This makes the reader anticipate that something is going to happen.

Keep in mind that there are other ways of doing this, these are just common ones that I have read, wrote, and/or learned about. I hope this helps.
