This cake (:cake1:) stands for when it’s your birthday, and this cake (:cake:) stands for when it’s your forums anniversary

Depending on the kind of cake that appears it will either mean it’s your birthday (the cake type you saw) or you will see another type of cake which means its your join-adversary (the day you joined episode)
