What’s the point of dividing a story in seasons?

I’ve seen many authors make a season one and season two type of thing but i don’t really understand why?

Sometimes it just suits the story itself to have more than one season.
Some reasons may include; the seasons taking place at different time frames for example S1 in high school and S2 in college or the main characters changing for example, S1’s main’s kid take over for S2.
Seasons can also provide breaks for the author and let readers anticipate and be excited for what’s to come next in a way that’s a bit different to a cliffhanger because they’re anticipating a whole new section of the story, not just how a cliffhanger plays out.

It’s hard to explain tbh, for me it just fits and feels right to have more than one season if the story is a bit longer, especially if there are different things to expect from each season. :woman_shrugging:t3:

The way I see it, it’s like a report with paragraphs, except each season is a new paragraph and contains slightly different or completely different content from the last and it’s also neater as opposed to one large paragraph.

i think seasons just separate the storylines. a story just like a tv show has a main storyline but it also has a side storyline that needs a whole separate season to be explained/ expand.

okay thank you :yum:

To be honest nothing.
I have read a story which got like 60some episode wit 4 or 5season. The story didn’t have any time jumps or any introduction of a new character / villain.
So what I believe is some authors wanna check whether readers like the story to a certain point or not. This way they will know whether or not to continue it or end the season/story.

tbh i think it just helps the readers (as well as the author) separate the events of a longer story ? after a while a lot of events that happened a while ago can begin to melt together and you forget what happened when, so i think separating things into seasons can just help to form a clearer timeline
