To be honest nothing.
I have read a story which got like 60some episode wit 4 or 5season. The story didn’t have any time jumps or any introduction of a new character / villain.
So what I believe is some authors wanna check whether readers like the story to a certain point or not. This way they will know whether or not to continue it or end the season/story.
