I was born in Pittsburgh, PA, but have lived out west for a for years and currently reside in Florida.
Do you like it where you live and/or where you were born? What are some things you liked/didn’t like?
For starters, I don’t like Pittsburgh. I know some who don’t share my opinion and that’s okay. Maybe it has something to do with being born there and having lived there for so long. No disrespect to the city, but it isn’t for me.
As for Florida, I love it. I love the weather and prefer warmer climates. I’ve always liked the south.
I was born and raised in Belize
what I didn’t like about there is the racism to my culture “Mestizo” the racism is wearing down on us but we still feel hated plus they call us dirty Spanish. People hardly ever hire us for jobs and the most common job you’ll ever find us with is the contractor or construction worker. Another common job is simply selling food, beverages, and snacks on the side of the highway.
And one more thing is that at school they had this day called “cultural day” which is where we celebrate our cultures but every time they have this day they have it on their special "Garifuna Settlement day (research if you want to know more) but we are basically forced to wear the Garifuna clothing which is not my culture but I respect it. I always want to wear my cultural clothing but I can’t
Born and raised in California. I have to say, I really like it here. For the most part, the people are very diverse, open-minded, and accepting, at least in the region that I live. The climate is pretty uniform, which is an added bonus. The Cali Culture is also really cool!
Of course, California also faces a lot of problems (We’re not immune to the racism, sexism, and other supremacist mentalities of the US. For example, I live in a very liberal city, and still, my family gets a lot of racist and other rude comments from randos on the street). Also, wildfires. The amount of wildfires we get are insane, and at this point, kind of ridiculous. Like really, you can’t look at me and say that global warming isn’t a problem; I’ve been breathing smoke for literally months, and so many people have lost their homes and their lives to wildfires.
But overall, I don’t think that I would leave. It’s very nice here!
I’m from North Carolina originally. It was OK, lovely area but I’m not too into the conservative vibes. Then I lived in New Jersey, then outside Philadelphia, LOVED it there & miss my friends . I’ve actually never been to Pittsburgh @FeraligatrFTW. Being a train ride away from NYC was fun, being close to the shore and lots of job opportunities too. Im in Southern California now, but I think my judgment of this area is a little warped since I moved during the pandemic/the now current wildfires but I can’t complain about the nearly constant sunshine!
I’m looking forward to reading through this thread with everyones replies!
I am from Africa. Zimbabwe, to be exact. I guess it’s a beautiful country and all, especially the wildlife reserves, I am soo proud of those I was born and raised here and sadly am still here. Not that I hate the place or anything, but there’s so much crime, and heat (it’s sooo hot right now), and corruption, and so many people are jobless. There’s also a lot of racism, where black people will even be racist towards their own. At school, we are told that our natural, curly hair is untidy and unladylike (I go to an all girls’ school), and that we should either cut it, or straighten it until the curls are all gone. You get bullied if your family is well-off, and sometimes when you’re walking in a random street, it’s so common to be catcalled by random grown men. It’s so hard for women here.
I honestly wonder if the fact that I want to leave as soon as possible is bad.
I can’t blame you for wanting to leave. Wow, that’s really scary, I’m sorry. Your natural curls are beautiful, I don’t even have to see them to know that.
That sounds disgusting, I’m so sorry. I wish you the best. There are always opportunities to leave. Remember nobody can make you stay so don’t let anyone convince you otherwise if leaving is something you want to do. I’m not sure how old you are but hopefully you are able to find somewhere you can call home.
I was born and raised (and still live) in Los Angeles, California. I honestly love it, I live not too far from DTLA and the whole life style is “cool”
I just don’t like the crime, actually that’s a lie, it’s low key exciting
I’m from Michigan and nothing really happens here which is something that I like and hate about it. It can get so boring here but then again, I don’t want natural disasters and stuff. Detroit is a completely different story though.
I live in Alberta, Canada. I was born here too. I don’t really like it here, I’ve always known that I want to move out of here. It’s just so boring & the weather isn’t that great here, either. I like that traffic isn’t that bad here, I guess. Also, I like living in Canada, our country is not that bad. Also, Alberta doesn’t have a provincial tax, unlike other provinces.
I’m from England and all I can really say is that it’s cold and wet but in the summer we get a few random hot days that pretty much anywhere else would still consider cold
I was born in Vijayawada and when I was in kindergarten we came to Hyderabad INDIA So technically I’m a hyderabadi we never moved from here to any other city I really love being here and never wanna leave but if work and stuff comes up I might leave obviously I love almost everything here I don’t know what to say in particular but yeah there’s definitely something I hate and that would the damn traffic but that’s it
