Well they should as a lot of people use tablets/iPads
I think when it comes to tablets vs. phones, itâs simply that most people are unaware thereâs a difference. Iâve done a number of R4Rs where I pointed out there were places I couldnât read dialogue (or even advance the story due to a tappable overlay) that was outside my view to authors. Every single time, the person had no idea tablets have a smaller view. They thought everyone saw the same thing.
Itâs a matter of not being clear what the Guide Box feature in the Portal is for.
If everyone knew that would be avoided.
That may happen every now and then.
Itâs only when itâs almost every line that it reaches the unreadable point.
There is a guide box in writers portal editor
characters falling in love 2 hard
teen stuff like: âprom is my life i will die without it!â âmy boyfriend is the center of my universe in high schoolâ
the parents being ~too chill~ about everything, not having an opinion at all or worries
if the characters are teenagers, itâs super boring when they do something dangerous or wrong and do have any consequence at all
Fake ( choices matter in this story) when is not real I read stories where choices do not matter and I like it but when I read a story where âchoices matterâ but the only choices is exemple(what do you want to eat for breakfast?) or (Do you want to say Hi or Hey)

What parents? Most stories completely ignore the role of parents completely. Half donât even show the parents. ![]()
I fully agree with the things that are already listed. So I donât need to say it again.
What I really, really, really despise are cameos. (Just my opinion)
I mean, ok. I get it. You have friends here. Good for you. But why are they in your stories? Are they relevant? I donât mind cameos as background characters as long as they have no relevance in your story and are just background characters (and only a few of them).
I once read a story that was almost full with cameos (the MC wasnât a cameo but his girlfriend, her best friend, his friends etc.) and that was the reason why I stopped reading the story, even though the plot was intriguing and had potential (I will not say the story 'cause I donât want to offend the author).
Use your own imagination and create your own characters. You donât need cameos so your story will be funny or entertaining. Itâs not funny. Itâs annoying. And itâs kind of lazy of the author adding cameos. And seeing the same facesâŠ

I also have friends here but it doesnât mean my story should be full with cameos and inside jokes.
What also bothers me is when the author favours one LI and the other LIâs are completely douchebags and donât play a big role in the story, only the favourite LI. Sure, it is normal to have a favourite LI but please take other LIâs into account when your story contains more than 1 LI. It is not fair to have the better date and the funnier dialogues with the LI favored by the author. And of course, the favourite LI has the better looksâŠ
This is mostly the reason why I stop reading a story when I notice that other LIâs are being treated unfairly. I often like the other LI more than the favourite LI, to be honest.
What I also noticed is the fact that some stories make religion bad, as if it would bad to be religious (especially Christians). Ok, Iâm not a religious person myself, even though I am baptized Catholic, but I find it insulting to see religious characters portrayed as the bad guys, as the boring ones, as homophobes or as unappealing assholes. Being religious is not a bad thing. Religious people can also be witty, open-minded, tolerant and cheerful. And yes, you can also go clubbing with them (with or without alcohol).
Puh! What a comment.
Just a reminder: these are just my opinions.
30 second slow-mo zooms

Lol, yep that too! XD
I agree with all three points on this post!
The cameos. I donât mind it when itâs a character contest, or if itâs an every-once-in-a while situation, but once I read a story that had cameos in nearly every other chapter, and half the chapter would be dedicated to these characters that were irrelevant to the story. They did nothing to move the plot along, and their scenes were basically filler. So I donât mind cameos if theyâre done correctly, but sometimes authors overdo it.
Ah yes, the favoring one LI over the other⊠if youâre going to have more than one LI, let the reader choose which LI they want to be with instead of introducing an LI that the MC hardly has any scenes with. And itâs worse when we are forced to have romantic scenes with the LI we donât want. (Iâm obviously talking about stories where the reader has a choice between different LIs)
Oh, yes, the making religion a bad thing is a huge pet peeve of mine. If you want to make an unlikable character religious, fine, but donât make the ONLY religious person in the story negative. Show other people of that faith as well, some negative, some positive, some strict, some a bit more lenient.
Totally agree on the religious thing. Like, if you see a character being religious, chances are theyâre gonna turn out to be either huge jerks that cause trouble for MC or be annoying naysayers that will try to keep the MC and the LIâs romance from happening.
Also, why are all step-parents portrayed to be bad? Sometimes, the actual parents are far worse irl and I wish more stories would show THAT instead.
As a tablet reader, this will make a story unreadable for me too.
Sometimes I can click through almost an entire scene without being able to read a single line of dialogue because of the speech bubble placement! Sometimes I canât continue a scene because the tappables are off screen. There was a story recently that I quit (a much older story before tappables) where the mini game was impossible to finish as a tablet reader. I wasnât able to see what was going on and ended up stuck so I gave up.
Odd how some people put the dialogue all the way down there. I published my entire first story avoiding the red warning sign âsome devices canât see that dialogue!!!â without knowing what âsome devicesâ even were lol.
Maybe it was more subtle in older versions of the writerâs portal.
No excuse lately, though, with the big red thing screaming at ya âDONâT PUT THE DIALOGUE BOX THERE!!!â lmao. ![]()
Tbh if someone sees the red warning sign, ignores it, and loses readers because of it, then uhhhh⊠sucks to suck tbh.
I canât finish Last Girl Standing because I canât see what they want me to do in elevator scene.
This is about what makes it unreadable and that makes it unreadable in every sense of the word
Yes, speech bubbles out of screen makes it unreadable.
However stating that over and over again here wonât spread the awareness that you want.
Try to start a topic about it or a How To: or talk about it in Instagram.
As @/Scarlet_Sapphire stated even without knowing how the Guide Box works, I didnât ignore the warnings. But it didnât make sense to me until I tested my story on a tablet and some phone users donât have a tablet. When things donât make sense many choose to ignore, when they shouldnât.
What makes a story unreadable for me besides the points I expressed months ago, is when MC does something out of character with no coherence, what I mean is for example she is described as a goody-shoes and out of no where she starts killing people or she is ruthless, the guy comes and she becomes all mushy mushy ![]()
I merely stated what makes it unreadable and several people here have agreed with me. Itâs a valid point to make HERE.
I made several
Pints and this is the ONLY one they singled out. You donât have to agree with my point, but do t say itâs not valid just because you donât believe it to be so
Hey everyone

Letâs please try to stay on topic. If anyone is giving you a difficult time please private message them instead of creating off-topic posts inside of the thread
. Thanks a bunch!
