What's the default overlay layer for **OL** backgrounds?

Like what level # would I have to use to get a character to be in front of the overlay?

I’m trying to get a character to sit behind the overlay and another to be in front basically.

If the character should be in front then It should have higher layer number, like for ex. Character behind is in layer 0, overlay layer 1 and character in front in layer 2

You can have the character behind the overlay at layer 6 and put the character in front of the overlay at layer 5

I do that all the time and it looks perfect for me.

You need to set the layer yourself if you want character to be in front
of it

so let’s say you’re using
INT. ITALIAN RESTAURANT OL - NIGHT with default overlay in it

Just put:

INT. ITALIAN RESTAURANT OL - NIGHT with INT. ITALIAN RESTAURANT OL - NIGHT at layer 1

so now for the character in front use layer 2

Right now it looks like: 0001 with

INT. MAYORS OFFICE OL - NIGHT with INT. MAYORS OFFICE OL - NIGHT at layer 1

Character in the front - layer 2
Characters behind - layer -1, -2
