What would you say a toxic MC is? And would you read a story where at first the MC is very mean and does horrible things, but then later change drastically into a very nice MC and do good things?

if the story doesn’t point out the fact that they are doing toxic stuff, that’ll just normalize the issue.
and something big that i feel is toxic, is if the mc doesn’t address these problems they have. they play it off as if hurting others is normal, but then stops doing those things assuming that’ll make them a better person. but then they still have very manipulative traits.
example: using past traumas to make others feel as if they owe the mc something.
but in general, a toxic mc is just how it sounds. abusive, emotionally and psychically. enjoying the pain they cause others, a lack of sympathy, acting like an empath (acting like the victim), belittling other’s views/emotions if they don’t compare to the mc’s own views/emotions, etcetera.
and yeah, i would! i love character growth!

I think a toxic MC treats everyone else like trash, and only cares about herself. She’s able to scare people into being her “friends.” She will also do anything and everything to get her way. She doesn’t care if she’s ruining others’ lives.

Probably a character that does manipulative and out-right bullies other people, all while gaslighting the people around them and justifying their bad behaviour. I think the key to showing good character growth is showing how their actions impact people and how damaging it is.

Well in romance stories usually it is a MC that gets jealous of other girls when they have known the LI for no longer than a few days/weeks and insults the girls because of that. In general just toys with people and doesn’t give two sh*ts. I don’t think I could unless I knew that was the end goal. But their change has to be natural and not just I realised I was wrong now I am miss goody two shoes. They should still “relapse” at times because you can’t just change overnight.
