Hello everyone!
Every Friday, a story that I really like releases a chapter but on Friday evening when i opened the app, went into the story and I came across this:
You had to pay 8 gems to read the chapter with no ads and support the author or wait a 6 days to read the chapter with ads. I thought this was terrible and if you don’t know, there’s are feature where authors can put the new chapter/episode on early access or not. I actually paid 8 gems to read the chapter with no ads and after reading the chapter, I felt ripped off beacuse the chapter was like 5 minutes long, and I refuse to pay 8 gems again! I rather wait a 6 days or week to read the new chapter than waste my gems just to read the new chapter.
Please tell me your opinion, this only my opinion❤
From a reader POV, I hate it because I’ve never had to pay to read a chapter straight away before (in Episode). So, something that’s pretty much always been free to suddenly change like that hit a bit hard.
But as for other platforms where this is the norm, I don’t mind because I’m used to it, it’s just with Episode — this is new, so it grinds my gears a bit when I want to read.
From an author POV, I think it’s great because it’s actually a successful gem choice and helps towards unlocking payments BUT, I think the option to change the gem cost and wait times would be better.
Well, I think authors should be able to choose, just like they can choose from options of how many gems they charge in a gem choice (5, 8, 12 etc, with a cap of course because it wouldn’t be fair for authors to charge too much). It’d be good if authors could choose to change it from 7 days to 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 or 1.
Personally, I would charge 5 gems for early access (because 5 is the lowest we can charge in gem choices) and change the wait time anywhere between 1-5 days depending on the chapter.
Never come across it but as a Webtoon reader I really don’t mind. It’s not that bad and tragic as people make it seem. You just need to wait, that’s all
I agree with you. 5 gems is good and reasonable price for early access and allowing the author to change the time to wait is useful. As well as the option to change the gem cost and wait times is better too, I agree with that too.
It’s not only bad for the readers, but the authors too. I recently published my 4th chapter WHICH I PROMISED EVERYONE WOULD BE READY. I advertised and everything, then I go to the app and it says it’s under early access. Apparently I accidentally added it and you can’t remove it!! I’m so frustrated because this will not be good for me.
Yes I agree with you. It’s stupid and unnecessary, and I rather wait. Nobody wants to waste their gems just to read the chapter of a story. A well as we literally get those terrible and expensive gem thrown at us to get a outfit or a bouns scene, and now we have to deal with this!? Wow, thanks a lot Episode you have just making 2021 a bad year for us Episode users!
I hate it and I’m not paying for it like ever. There are enough stories to read so I can wait for 6 days.
I prefer to support authors with “support the author” option.
Neutral. I don’t dislike it but that doesn’t mean I like it. The reason I personally don’t care is probably because I don’t tend to read chapters when they are released any more and most authors I follow release at least one free chapter so that is good enough for me. I don’t get why people are angry with it but I respect their opinions. I have never considered myself as a necessarily patient person but compared to others it seems as though I am. I have only had it pop up on me once or twice so maybe that’s why it doesn’t fustrate me but I don’t hate gem choices in general so that could also be why.
I mean, what choice do the authors have? I hate that reads r attacking authors abt this bc they just want their story to do well, what’s so wrong w that? Anyway, I’d prefer wait a bit in order to read the story than the author add gems choices to select certain paths in the story line or to b able to view art scenes. Early access is much better than that, u just have to b a lil patient. Imo, episode takes the blame here, not the authors.
