Where are all my Potterheads at? šŸ˜‚

I know…that was before I knew she was a :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I’m reading the comments above. It’s obvious that people saying ā€œwell, we support her except the transphobiaā€ is just cis people ignoring the impact and harm of her incredibly transphobic behavior while justifying their support for her in a way that excuses them from accountability. Trans people don’t suddenly feel okay when you tell them ā€œWell, I don’t agree with herā€, but continue promoting and supporting her/the franchise.

tally liked the book but not anymore. the author is transphobic and it ruins experience for them

dont know why ppl still support her when she spewed hate speech on twitter

We are here for fun so don’t spread hate u may not like her and we also don’t support that matter that doesn’t mean that we wouldn’t love HP and we will always do…I myself support LGBTQ community…We are here for some fun discussion…So don’t spread hatred pls…If u don’t want to be here pls don’t be… Sorry if it sounded rude… But we will be always HP fan

no one is doing that

tally dont know why u are supporting a trash person but you do you :person_shrugging:

okay bye have a nice day!

You clearly don’t. You can’t say you support the community while you support someone like J.K Rowling, and you cannot convince me otherwise. You can’t say ā€œdon’t spread hateā€ when you support someone who does that regularly.

As I said before, at least for me, I like her work - not her ideas. This is about Harry Potter and the Wizarding World which of course includes the author but this topic does not include anything the author says which is not related to HP.
When I started reading HP I had no idea about LGBTQ community or anything related because I was only 11 and had no idea that the author is transphobic. Her stories don’t promote any transphobic ideas either so I was clueless until recently I found out what she did.

This thread is to discuss HP where nothing against the LGBTQ+ community has been said or expressed. As you can see we haven’t talked much about JK Rowling apart from this. So I’m going to edit my topic and make this discussion solely for HP to avoid conflict.

I think it depends on how you look at it. An atheist is considered to be a ā€œtrash personā€ by those who strongly believe in existence of deities but is he/she/they really a bad person just because he/she/they have a different view on a particular topic? This is similar in this case too. There’s always going to be groups of people believing in different things so conflicts are bound to arise unless we are flexible enough to think in the point of view of the other person and resolve our differences which apparently is not gonna happen soon enough.

This is going off topic and I don’t want this topic to close please?

Whenever there are different opinions, there’s discrimination. It’s the truth unfortunately and you can’t deny it. It’s giving other transphobes the strength to oppress the trans I agree but you’re overlooking the fact that this happens every time there’s different opinions on a topic. If you choose the unconventional path people will criticize because that’s how society is and there’s power in numbers :woman_shrugging: and I was just giving an example. (:

People go to extreme lengths to prove what they believe in is right. Just like women were once ill-treated and discriminated but now their respect has increased slightly at least. This took so long because people had an opinion that women are not equal to men and took actions accordingly.

Thank you so much for understanding.

Just because she isn’t saying explicitly transphobic things in her released works doesn’t mean she’s a creator worth supporting. I don’t think you can conveniently separate the art from the artist when it’s a piece of content that you enjoy, and ignore all the damage she’s doing with the platform Harry Potter has given her.

Before you give me any of that ā€œwhat do you consider a bad personā€ crap, literally do any research on her. She made several statements since December 2019 talking about how she think trans women are men who ā€œpretendā€ to be women in order invade the privacy of women and girls in bathrooms so they can assault them. She even wrote and published an entire book in 2020 about a man who dresses up as a woman to lure in female victims so he can rape and kill them.
.

If you still feel cozy about supporting her, then there’s nothing I can do. But it’s obvious you haven’t looked into her.

are you comparing transphobia to women’s rights…

Transphobia and women’s rights are different. Someone dressing up as a woman to lure women is wrong. This has nothing to do with transphobia. This is plain criminal.

Someone who dresses up as a woman because they want to and it’s who they are is fine.

The fact that criminals are targeting the LGBTQ community to cause harm is not just harmful for the victims, but also harmful for the LGBTQ community.

There’s a huge difference.
