Why are SOME people in the fanmail so savage lol

They don’t hold anything back with the honesty and they’re rude and they can’t spell. I don’t mean all because some fan mail is really nice, but I’ve seen a lot of comments when people are rude to authors and demanding stuff. And they can’t spell simple words and form sentences. Why are they like this?

Exactly, and these are the SAME people who complain about authors being “too rude” in Q&A sessions. It sucks but that’s just how people are, unfortunately.

It’s just the way it is : /

There will always be people who are rude and inconsiderate : (

However, others will be helpful & kind when it comes to fanmail.

As for the spelling & mistakes part, when it comes to insults if they’re sending it FANmail, then well, I don’t think they care whether they make errors or not, since the first step in sending a fanmail is knowing what the word itself means.

Here’s some fantastic advice though when it comes to dealing with fanmail:

Don’t let them get to you

People will always judge, it’s like Starfire from the Teen Titans said “There will always be people who say mean words because you are different [in this case, it’s your story that’s different from ones they like]. Sometimes their minds cannot be changed. But there are many more people who do not judge others based on how they look or where they are from [or what they write about]. Those are the people whose words truly matter.”

P.S I just added those writing parts in lol ^^

Trust me, I’ve gotten my share of rude fanmail, and after I laugh at it, I ignore it or answer it if I’m in the mood XD

If all things look down, let’s remember what Paul Coelho said “Haters are confused admirers who can’t understand why everybody else likes you” :sparkling_heart: :facepunch:

For real. Sometimes, I understand, but other times, it’s just plain rude. I decided to be savage back.:woman_shrugging:t5::smirk:

I had someone send me 30 fanmails in less than 8 hours :no_mouth:
The first few were really nice, then they became obsessive creepy nice but then they just became so rude and mean - personal attacks.
They didn’t realise I could see they were all from the same person despite her changing the name

Oh dear but I have heard some people write crappy mail to people - like is you okay? Best thing to do is block them - they clearly do not deserve to use the fanmail facility.

I have been lucky to not have received any kind of hate mail but I am sure I would block them if worst comes to worst.

That is the EXACT situation.

Well, they’re spending minutes out of their lives writing to us. Very touching.

Thank you for spending your energy on me, I feel very honored.

Even if it’s negative energy, you gave me attention. YOU COULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING MORE AMAZING WITH YOUR TIME, BUT NOPE YOU SPENT IT ALL ON ME.

Now, excuse me as I ignore you person who’s sitting behind a device and sending me hate.

I have a story to write and I write it the way that I love. If you got a problem, exit my story and you’ll find plenty more other ones to your taste on the app!

Even if you’re a bully, you’re lucky you have access to free stories.

Sometimes, people will never change. If they could put themselves in the shoes of people getting hate mail, they’d understand the frustration it causes authors but oh well. The best thing to do is ignore, block or respond with badass messages that leave them breathless :innocent:

Beautifully said!

For the spelling part - Fanmail doesn’t have auto correct and sometimes I have to press a letter three times for it to appear.

Ah Fanmail. I get about three -> seven a day across all my stories, and yes, I often dread looking at that ‘1 unread’ fanmail my readers sent me though almost 99% of the time it’s positive, but there’s always that 1% chance it’s not. When I get a some mean ones, I usually come to the same conclusion as mentioned above, “Anyone who writes hate is wasting both our times.” I guess it could be referred to as ‘Blocking out the haters’ but I rather think of it as I’m just not going to care, and let the hate breeze by.

I think I mentioned this else where, but if a fanmail upsets me, I will often reply with just a period because idk if it’s worth typing up a sassy remark if they aren’t ever going to see the reply. Plus if they do see my period, it’s kinda like. Meh. You aren’t worth a reply lol.

I’ve only come across one fanmail that was report-worthy, and it was something along the lines of ‘great idea, but anyone could have done better than you’ which was uh- hurtful? Unnecessary? Like… were you hoping to accomplish something by sending this other than hurting me? Oh well.

I swear I sent you like… ten fail mail stuff over the course of one week. My most recent one had the worst grammar ever. :joy:

I’m going to go with the ability to essentially be anonymous so people feel the need to be as rude as they want with no repercussions.

I’ve found that people on IG are less likely to be as rude because there is less of a chance to be anonymous on there.

Edit: I recently just turned off fanmail on both stories of mine because when people get rude, it’s very very very hard not to respond the same way so I’d rather not even let myself access it and sadly people who are respectful have to suffer the consequences of fanmail being off.
