Where are your commands for the choking overlay? If you write the create command, you need to list every single feature: scale, place, opacity, layers. Why do you even use create in the first place? Overlays work with a simple shift and scale 
Place the choking overlay wherever you want it, make sure it’s shift, scale and layer mentioned ONLY. And then try to see.
