Hi again!
So, in my story, I wrote the relationship between the MC and the “love interest” as sort of like sad and “toxic”. I wouldn’t exactly call it “toxic”, though, because there would be no abuse, manipulation or any of that. Just a sad, miserable relationship between two sad and miserable people.
Anywhoo, I was wondering if you guys as readers would still be interested in a story, even though the plot is rather depressing?
I’ve read quite a few stories with depressing plotlines and I’ve liked them mostly because I could relate, the aesthetics were nice, the directing was great and I was intrigued to see if things would ever take a turn for the better, so yes, I would read a depressing story.
potentially ? sometimes i’m down for a well-written tragedy. i’d need more details though , eg if the story were to contain triggering content maybe i wouldn’t be so keen
I’d read it if it was well-written, BUT sad stories usually need a balance - humor (people who are traumatized generally use humor as a coping mechanism), some lightness, a glimmer of hope - otherwise we just feel like we’re being dragged chapter after chapter
