Since the last time I saw this topic, the change is that I started to actually write on Episode lol. It’s more time-consuming than I realised at the time, so some of my more cushy stories have been scrapped.
I still don’t write anything that Episode would ever want lmao. If they somehow wanted to adapt an episode of my Trail Mix story, I’d probably sell that, but again, I don’t know what they’d do with a single episode with a short, self-contained plot.
I’m not even sure Episode wants Beautiful Genesis on their app at all, let alone on their shiny front page. But if, by some strange miracle, Beautiful Genesis became the next The Infected and everyone was reading it, and Episode approached me to buy it, I’d definitely refuse. Not only because I don’t think they couldn’t do it right, that a company this shallow would miss all of the nuance, but because it’s fundamentally incompatible with gem choices. I think that even if I was (somehow) popular, not even Episode could miss the notes of post-modern-capitalist satire. “Oh, look, a story that is low-key about a universe where the rich have enormous advantage over the poor, the rich have the power to exploit and even “eat” the poor without consequence, and the reader plays as a poor individual who can’t defend herself against this amoral injustice… you know what it needs? Microtransactions.”
TL;DR I don’t think I’d ever spend time directing and publicizing a story that was anywhere near straightforward and lighthearted enough for Episode to want.
