This has been going on for so long. That people screen record author’s stories and post them without their permission. I think people that copyright should be removed from the app. It getting tiring having to report people on Youtube all the time. Something needs to be done.
This never happened to me and I never saw this before since I don’t really search for Episode stories on Youtube but… I totaly agree with this. This isn’t fair at all. People like this should definitely be taken down from the app.
Maybe authors can fill a form or something that states they don’t want their story to be recorded and posted on Youtube or something, bc there are a lot of them on Youtube from various stories
I don’t think any author wants their story uploaded to Youtube unless it’s their Youtube account. When a Youtube channel gets lots of views or subscribers they can get paid. It’s not fair for someone that is stealing someone else’s story to get paid for another’s hard work.
Yeah, some people actually make yt videos that have episode bgs by episode themselves or by an background creator without credit or anything and I don’t think that they know that they can get sued for that
What! That’s not on. DM me the YouTube channel so I can report it
I THINK I read somewhere that episodes owns the stories we publish. Don’t quote me on that tho. But if that’s the case submit a ticket to episodes maybe and see if there are legal ramifications for uploading to youtube. I’ll look into that lol
Episode doesn’t own any stories unless they ask to buy the author out.
Good point.
I upload mine so my grandma can read them. I can’t teach an 80 year old woman how to use the episodes app.
Episode doesn’t own the story but Episode owns all the assets in the story like the features, animations etc. So it’s a TOS violation to upload stories on YT, whether they are community or featured. It’s technically committing piracy
Can I ask?
Dont take it bad
What is the problem for posting it on Youtube
Selution
Just write something into your story:
This story cant be shared enywhere or you will be banned from Episode.
Or
You can do a splash (or how do you call it)
Oof, I can think of a person who uploaded the majority of an Episode story on their channel, but it was Episode’s featured story. They were basically making fun of it, and the videos were funny, so I don’t really care, lmaooo.
I do feel bad for non-featured stories, however I don’t think that’ll stop. If people are making fun of them, then the people viewing it will most likely find them funny and would want more of that. And, if people are just reading them, then the people viewing it will most likely enjoy the fact that they can read stories without having to use passes.
Still though, we can try to report the videos as much as possible and see if they get taken down.
It is the same as posting movies on Youtube. Not only it’s not your own content but also you’re also affecting the author’s revenues. Writers don’t have to write that disclaimer at all, it’s their intellectual property and nobody can use it without their permission.
Given that people posting on youtube tend to post the majority of the story, for free, it takes away from the writer’s audience, as people will then just play it on YouTube. Furthermore, the YouTube channel hits go up, and so if they end up reaching a certain number of followers and views (however it works) those videos will earn money for the person uploading them, meaning they are effectively earning money from someone else’s work and screwing over the writer in the process.
As for the splash you’re recommending to add… It’s unlikely to make any difference, as some people don’t read splashes, or simply don’t care about what it says.
Most of all though, nobody has the ability to ban anyone from episode, other than the app owners. So there is literally nothing that the writer can do to enforce the rule.
Yeah as @Cheyara_Skadi said, people tend to ignore splashes and don’t read them so adding them wouldn’t make a difference (:
People on YouTube have been doing that for a while now so I doubt its going to stop anytime soon, unfortunately so you’ve either got to ignore it or report it. There’s not much else we can do since only YouTube has the power to take further actions (:
Also, happy anniversary Cheyara
It’s different when it’s your own work, not someone else’s.
That’s a very solid point.
It might not happen anytime soon but if it’s not brought to light then nothing will ever happen.
I agree. You should never upload someone else’s work. People don’t realize how much work goes into making an episode.
