So I read something about not being able to reference any outside / real-life companies (like, you can’t write anything about a copyrighted franchise, for example, Harry Potter) but is it allowed if I put a twist on the franchise’s name in my story?? Reference to Stranger Things, to those who might not know.

I thought you could name brands as long as its a passing reference and doesn’t drive the plot?
But yeah, I think you should be fine.

@cherriesandwine is correct. You can’t have your story revolve around a brand/tv show/celebrity, but you can have characters say they watched something on Netflix or that they like Britney Spears songs for example.
